I would like to present a feature preview of a new feature (or
functionality) for Tiki.
Whilst the "Workspaces" function makes complete sets of content-objects only visible for certain groups and leaves all contained content visible in all perspectives (for permitted users), the "Areas" function structures content related to the context and makes it visible only in one specific perspective (for permitted users). The "Areas" feature is independant from membership in groups and is usable also for anonymous non-registered visitors.
Base of the "Areas" is a little file, written by our new developer
Merbster, called tiki-perspective_binder.php wich allowes to use
category jails in a different - more strict - way and therefore to build
up mainly independant areas for subwebsites, projects etc. wich can
contain aswell cross-site visible content objects (Tiki default) as
perspective bound content (new in Tiki).
Binding categories (and thus content-objects) to perspectives, means
that the visibility of specific content objects can now be limited by
area respectively by location on the website independant of user
permissions and group membership.
The feature is in an early stage of development and works with direct
calls to the database, wich means it is not yet integrated into the
code. The file tiki-perspective_binder.php was commited to trunk today.
For testing in Tiki7 or Tiki6 you'll find a link above the code plugin
Any help to integrate the idea of the code into Tiki as a native feature
would be appreciated.
I hope that we will get lots of comments, as I feel that this might be
something, more people than only me have been looking for.
Greetz @all and thanks to Merbster,
