Hi, I'd like to suggest a couple of libraries to add to Tiki 14: https://github.com/alxlit/bootstrap-chosen This one is to make the Chosen selector styles consistent with the default Bootstrap styles (regarding line spacing, white space and so on). Currently, styled with their own CSS, the Chosen form parts aren't integrated very well visually with other parts of the pages' forms. Also, https://github.com/CWSpear/bootstrap-hover-dropdown "An unofficial Bootstrap plugin to enable Bootstrap dropdowns to activate on hover and provide a nice user experience. http://cameronspear.com/demos/bootstrap-hover-dropdown/ " This one gives Bootstrap menus the same behavior as Tiki's superfish menus, arguably more convenient and intuitive for users. On touchscreen devices the menus are still tap-to-open, so the expected Bootstrap behavior there. I wanted to check if these are agreeable to everyone (or if anyone knows of better solutions), and also I'm not really sure how to do the composer external libs thing, if someone could take care of that. -- Gary |

Hi Gary and all, I am not the best to evaluate libraries and I cannot help you out with composer. But apart from that my 2cent: * Are the solutions where you suggest the libraries all JS/jQuery based? => If yes, that should not affect superfish - it is important, that Tiki offers the non-JS css-menu, even if we could "simulate" their behaviour with JS/jQuery. => I am NOT against using JS/jQuery at all, but only where it makes sense = where it is needed to make certain feature possible. <-> I am against replacing non-JS with JS where it is not essentially necessary. * Apart from these basic thoughts, I feel, that your suggested libraries - as you describe them - make sense and add good behaviour to bootstrapped Tiki. Trusting your coder experience: +1 to both of them Best regards Torsten On 19.10.2014 07:43, Gary Cunningham-Lee wrote: > Hi, > > I'd like to suggest a couple of libraries to add to Tiki 14: > > https://github.com/alxlit/bootstrap-chosen > > This one is to make the Chosen selector styles consistent with the > default Bootstrap styles (regarding line spacing, white space and so > on). Hi all I think the libs Gary is suggesting, Torsten, are only involved in the Bootstrap stuff. Bootstrap Chosen seems to just be some css/less which looks like a good idea, and the menu one i think would need a pref or parameter in the menu module to make it optional. Any idea if it disables itself for touch devices? Generally +1 for both though, thanks Gary jonny p.s. Will add them to composer.tiki.org & composer.json if everyone's happy :) On 19 Oct 2014, at 11:38, Torsten <tik...@tw...> wrote: > Hi Gary and all, > > I am not the best to evaluate libraries and I cannot help you out with > composer. Hi, Yes, Jonny, the menu functions like a standard Bootstrap menu on touch devices. So said the docs, and I tested the demo page with my iphone. -- Gary On 10/20/2014 9:22 PM, Jonny Bradley wrote: > > Hi all > > I think the libs Gary is suggesting, Torsten, are only involved in > the Bootstrap stuff. > > Bootstrap Chosen seems to just be some css/less which looks like a > good idea, and the menu one i think would need a pref or parameter in > the menu module to make it optional. hi i found composer package for the hover thing, so that should be easy: https://packagist.org/packages/cwspear/bootstrap-hover-dropdown i did not find for the bootstrap-chosen, so that should go to vendor_extra folder. Hi all Well done Gary, yes branching v soon so this would need doing before, but i've been deluged with stuff i'm behind on this week, not sure i can do much on this. Bootstrap chosen zip is here: https://github.com/alxlit/bootstrap-chosen/archive/v1.0.0.zip which would work with composer/satis Do we need both of them? Hi, Yes, they have different functions - one gives Bootstrap styles to Chosen selectors, the other enables Bootstrap menu dropdown on hover rather than click (still works with touch on touchscreens).
