Hi, I didn't see a reply to this (I'm using webmail temporarily so it's easier to not see messages, I think) but since luci requested the themes.t.o update to branch 14 just now, I want to check again: What is the plan for the site header? Is the custom module zone method working ok enough in tests that it can be implemented there? If so, what site layout template should be used? As I said earlier, in my tests at zukakakina.com and localhost, a setup with the fixed_top_modules works pretty solidly, and I have a configuration that implements the homepage as in the design mockup images. These are solid and work with all themes. But if there's an even better approach, that's fine with me. --Gary On 2015-04-11 04:09, ga...@cu... wrote: > Hi, > > About the navbar scrolling behavior for the project sites, I see it's > been implemented for the fixed top page header, which works smoothly. > IIRC, luci's description last fall was that the topbar would afix to > the > viewport top when the page is scrolled. Hi, About the navbar scrolling behavior for the project sites, I see it's been implemented for the fixed top page header, which works smoothly. IIRC, luci's description last fall was that the topbar would afix to the viewport top when the page is scrolled. I'm thinking maybe that second effect maybe isn't such a good idea. I implemented that also in my localhost branch 14 and it works ok, but isn't ideal. One problem is that at other examples I see, the navbar that rises and sticks to the top is an element that's at the same DOM level as the page header and middle (or main content div). Tiki's HTML isn't set up that way currently that at least in fivealive-lite there's a visual problem because the full-width middle, which has the background "border" at its top scrolls up along with the page content, and the topbar module zone sticks at the viewport as it should, but it loses its background, which scrolled up out of sight. I added a topbar background so the links do have a background, but this is is just the topbar (i.e., container) width. Actually in my test it's container width on the left but goes off the screen on the right, but I don't know if this is just due to an implementation detail. This is all with the "fixed_top_modules" layout template, which I tested with because otherwise it's pretty solid. Anyway, visual glitches aside, I'm finding the UI is kind of sketchy with this arrangement. It's easy to to miss the narrow affixed top bar with the pointer and hit the page header bottom margin instead, which brings down the page header and covers the aimed-for link. And the movement of the two scrolling sections, while fluid and so on, gives a not-so-solid impression about navigation, somehow IMO. If the user spends more time messing with page scrolling to position links to click, it kind of defeats the purpose of improving UI with the affixed topbar. Maybe if luci is working on implementing the affixed topbar he's getting better results, which would be great, but I think the touchiness involved with the narrow link area (the topbar) would be the same problem in any implementation. So bottom line is maybe the scrolling that's currently set up the project sites is enough, and no need for the affixed topbar. -- Gary |

Ah! Thanks heaps Torsten! That was it! After I added bootstrap=n and css=y to the each module it starts to look what Gary posted! That must be it... Now the difference with Bootstrap and Superfish is that Superfish has rounded corners on top of the submenu and the top one looks different (no background) compared to the top_bar one. Should they look the same and only difference be actually Superfish supporting more levels of submenus? Thanks Gary for the Superfish submenu background fix btw. luci On 03/28/2015 05:50 PM, Torsten Fabricius wrote: > Hi Luci, > > you must activate suckerfish as usual, BUT ADDITIONALLY tell each module > menu individually that you want to aberrate from the Bootstrap default. > > This was kind of the tradeoff with LPH for that he would not thow away > the suckerfish completely (as replacing with Bootstrap, where I just > stopped him back then ;-) . > > I personally find it acceptable to have Bootstrap as default even for > updates of old sites and then the new option to manually go back to > suckerfish. > > Imho this is what I would most expect from a Bootstrap software that > still cares on backwards compatibility. > > Cheers > T. > > > > On 28.03.2015 17:17, luciash d' being wrote: >> But I have just checked and I have Superfish checkbox enabled in >> Features panel. >> >> Hmm... >> >> luci >> >> >> On 03/28/2015 05:09 PM, luciash d' being wrote: >>> Oh! Hi Luci, you must activate suckerfish as usual, BUT ADDITIONALLY tell each module menu individually that you want to aberrate from the Bootstrap default. This was kind of the tradeoff with LPH for that he would not thow away the suckerfish completely (as replacing with Bootstrap, where I just stopped him back then ;-) . I personally find it acceptable to have Bootstrap as default even for updates of old sites and then the new option to manually go back to suckerfish. Imho this is what I would most expect from a Bootstrap software that still cares on backwards compatibility. Cheers T. And yes, I svn upped, ran sh setup.sh composer, cleared all caches etc. luci PS: Btw, when I go to http://localhost/tiki14x/tiki-admin_system.php?do=all the horizontal menus stop expanding on that page (vertical ones work). Is that normal? PPS: btw2, I disabled the Superfish and it all seems to behave and work the same as with enabled??? PPPS: time for a bug report and show instance? Hmm, to be sure we're looking at the same things, I attached a small screenshot to show the bad color contrast now in superfish menus. There's a problem not only in Amelia, but for any theme where the navbar background color contrasts strongly with the superfish child item background color. I suppose it's subjective whether the first and last menu items having asymmetric padding is no good, or their not filling up the space at the top and bottom of the dropdown is no good. I don't think this second thing is very attractive, so I'll fix it some way without the asymmetric padding. About the Snow theme, sure, it's retro, not meant to be a model for current web design. I updated it to Bootstrap mostly because I wanted to test/show the use of background images with CSS3 and Bootstrap (which by the way is way easier and more fun than before). -- Gary On 2015-03-28 07:02, luciash d' being wrote: > Hi Gary (cc Artwork list as only people aesthetically interested might > provide some relevant input ;)), > > it looks fine for me in all themes. Hi Gary (cc Artwork list as only people aesthetically interested might provide some relevant input ;)), it looks fine for me in all themes. IMHO all items of the menu should have same consistent padding in the highlight (I do not see a reason why first and last item should have different asymetric padding in highlight; it looked like an error to me, that is why I changed it) and the padding above and below the menu items in the ul was intentional I thought. If it was not, then it can be removed all together. I agree the Snow theme looks a bit odd with that padding on top and bottom (the whole theme looks a bit nineties of the last century to be honest) but that can be fixed for that one theme itself? Others look just fine to me. Hi, Ok, that's sounds right. So to summarize (I just switched zukakakina.com to branch 14 and these problems are front and center ;-) ), in Fivealive-lite, the div#topbar contains the narrow navbar (it will have a set px height) and will be fixed at the screen top. So what about the top module zone, where sites typically put the site logo and titles. Should it be not-displayed by CSS, or do we just have docs that tell people to remove or hide its modules if they want to use the Fivealive-lite theme? -- Gary On 2/23/2015 10:36 PM, luciash d' being wrote: > Hi Gary, > > I think it should be choice of the Admin. Hi Gary, I think it should be choice of the Admin. Maybe they have just short subtitle and want it displayed? It should be with overflow: hidden though in my opinion to avoid expanding of the top bar. Probably collapsed in mobile view. luci On 02/22/2015 02:43 AM, Gary Cunningham-Lee wrote: > Hi, > > Due to the small space, the site subtitle won't be shown in the > fixed-top navbar, like for the FiveAlive-lite redesign; is that right? > Actually I was thinking of giving the site subtitle CSS classes to hide > it in small-device views (xs and sm) by default. Also, what about the phone (and maybe tablet) views, for layouts with a normal page header (not fixed-top or other narrow top-to-bottom navbar)? On the phone, just show a small logo or icon plus the site title, in the header? (So no site subtitle?) Everything else should collapse and be expandable with the expand button, right? If you have any other ideas, etc. about the small view, please say. This still has to be decided and worked out, seems to me. If site admins want to have a nicely responsive site on phones, they'll need to plan the site header content with that in mind, and/or we'll have to provide the means. This involves questions like what to do with banner ads, modules other than logo, title, menu and search, and so on. -- Gary On 2/22/2015 10:43 AM, Gary Cunningham-Lee wrote: > Hi, > > Due to the small space, the site subtitle won't be shown in the > fixed-top navbar, like for the FiveAlive-lite redesign; is that right? > Actually I was thinking of giving the site subtitle CSS classes to hide > it in small-device views (xs and sm) by default. Hi, Due to the small space, the site subtitle won't be shown in the fixed-top navbar, like for the FiveAlive-lite redesign; is that right? Actually I was thinking of giving the site subtitle CSS classes to hide it in small-device views (xs and sm) by default. But does this limit the freedom of the site admin? Ideally, it should be a L&F option, I suppose. What do you think? -- Gary |

Nice. I didn't apply the profile yet, but for a quick test, I just added the javascript in L&F customization and the effect works in the "Moving headers" and "Social Networking" layouts (http://zukakakina.com/trunk) since they have the div already. Also "bootstrap-chosen" can be seen in the theme and layout switch modules at the site. I checked with my phone (iPhone 4s) and it's especially good on that small screen that the header moves up so there's more content room. :) (The no-php5.5 problem at nexttheme.t.o needs to be fixed for the "official" view.) -- Gary On 2/8/2015 5:38 AM, luciash d' being wrote: > OK, here is my initial version 0.1 of the "Hide Fixed Top Nav Bar on > Scroll" fluffy.
