When will TiK have support for OSCAR? I see this as a serious bug, and would be most interested in being able to check away messages without having to send a message to do so.
To be honest, there are a lot of other bugs with TiK right now that I would rather see fixed, and therefore am working to get fixed. So far, for a project with 16 developers, there's not a whole lot of contributors. The numbers for the last survey (concerning a letter to AOL) were pathetic.
While I agree that OSCAR support is something that should eventually be accomplished, who's going to do it? All the IM clients I've seen with OSCAR support are using libfaim. One of the joys of TiK is that it's Tcl/Tk and fairly portable. libfaim isn't Tcl/Tk so someone has to rewrite it in Tcl/Tk, or produce a Tcl/Tk friendly compiled version. That's going to take time, especially to get a compiled version ported out and working on all the platforms TiK can run on.
Anyone up for doing it, please do so. In the meantime, I would rather see TiK become solid with what it can do now.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
OSCAR support is something which is very much in the far far future if at all. TOC does almost everything we need. Converting to OSCAR would require an extra layer between tcl/tk and the OSCAR libraries, or a complete rewrite of TiK itself. I've lowering the priority on this.
