#116 unreadable fonts

while helvetica 12pt has always been my default font
of choice for this program, somehow the font changed
and now it is in some unreadable condensed form. i
believe some package is conflicting with this, because
a reinstall of the program (and even a reinstall of
linux itself) has not solved the problem. i have only
seen this ugly font on tik; other programs using
helvetica are not having problems.

I have also run into this problem (as yet unresolved); but
in my particular case it only occurs when I'm conversing
with a friend of mind that happens to be using "Fire", an
AIM client under Mac OS X. We have yet to be able to
determine whose side of the fence (Fire vs. TiK) this
happens to be on (he doesn't have any problem talking to
_other_ AIM clients).

yes, this problem has to be on tik's side. of course the
guy using "fire" won't have any problems because the mac OS
is completely different (and fonts are more stable on their
OS, i'd guess). in my particular case, i don't even have
to be logged on (see screenshot) when this problem occurs,
so it has no relationship to any particular AIM clients at
all. whether i'm sitting at the login screen or in a
conversation, i have bad fonts. it's universal throughout
the program.
