"Branch" is not a common concept in the SCMs.
Mercurial "branch" has three terms.
* named branch
* unnamed branch (multiple heads)
* big-picture branch (cloning repository)
Git "branch" is a reference to a specific revision.
It is popular that Mercurial GUI shows all revisions on the top page.
