I have reimplemented 90% of the core offline functionality of daq in about 1000 lines of Ruby. At present, this is a prototype activity, but the ease of implementation so far leads me to expect that future development of TIDAL will be in Ruby. Among other things, Ruby gives the TIDAL user a more powerful scripting capability than EDL, as well as easy access to advanced libraries, e.g., graphical user interface builders.
There are no package releases in Ruby yet, but the current state of the source code is in CVS under 'rtidal'.
