Added a unit test which (nicely) exhibits the exceptions-causing-crashing
problem on crow.lightbearer.com (Debian testing/unstable + Linux 2.2.17 +
gcc 2.95.4).
And which, incidentally, demonstrates that it's not threads, since the
unit test doesn't start any threads.
