3E OSS

Introduction

This project attempts to create an Operational Support System (OSS) to solve many problems encountered in the field. The project will grow organically over time. Given enough food, sunlight and love, the result of this project will be used in the field.

The acronym literally means '3 Engineers Operational Support System'. The name is simply an easy moniker for a nice experiment. The acronym teoss will be used in the code instead as many systems rightfully barf when faced with a name beginning with a number and underscores on packages just don't look right.

The OSS

Fault Manager

The first 3E OSS application will be a fault manager (aka [FM]). Any [FM] worth its salt will:

• collect events from monitored elements.
• consolidate alarms from many collectors into a common format in a central storage repository
• perform event deduplication, correlation and enrichment of events
• present events to users for action and provide methods for users to manage the event state.
