Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Greetings and salutations, I've not been very active on the project lately. This is due to many exams and lots of school work. This is however somewhat late to tell you, but I asked the Mammal Society for their approval to use it and they answered no (this was done soon after it was placed on website). I have removed it, but I think I know where to get a new one... Sorry about this guys, but I'll try to fetch a similar one. I really liked the cat though... :-( However, happy new year to both of you, and anyone else who may be reading this news list. Hopefully it'll get somewhat active in this new year. I've heard rumours about Tim <tj...@sw...> writing a document on how to install Thix for the end-user (or making a full image for Bochs?). So at least those interessted can test Thix "out-of-the-box". We need to get Thix source code uploaded to the website, which I also will discuss with Tim soon... Anyways; Happy New Year! Once I put the wildcat image on the webpage, I wrote to the Mammal Society, and they won't let us put the image on the siet, due to copyright permission. Pasting mail: Georgette Shearer <GSh...@ma...> wrote: > Dear Andreas > > Thank you for your e-mail. I'll keep looking for a new wildcat, same type. Anyone very good to draw? =) |

On the Thix webpages (http://thix.sourceforge.net/about/free_software.htm) there's supposed to be an explanation about free software, what free software stands for and why free software is the way to go. Should we write this ourselves, or should we copy the correct text from the GNU projects webpages? (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html) I've also written a news article about the new logo. The article pretty much contains the same as on the logo webpage (http://thix.sourceforge.net/about/thix_logos.htm). The news article: http://thix.sourceforge.net/news/281103_newlogo Tim and I came to the conclusion that news articles should be saved in text format (with no ending) for making news updating faster. The users can then simple go to http://thix.sourceforge.net/news/ and see what the latest news is, or they can look at the front page, under the news section. We were also discussing making Thix a little more automated. At the moment there are a couple of things wrapped up in the code that doesn't need to be there. I'll look further into this. Happy hacking! -ato |

What do you think of the new Thix logo (http://thix.sourceforge.net/images/wildcat.jpg), it's also viewable from the front page. I spoke to Tudor a while ago, and he said that there weren't any "typical" creatures for Romainia (where Thix was developed), but then I did some research and got the wildcat. I think it fits quite nicely into the webpage. <URL:http://thix.sourceforge.net/> Anyways, tell me what you think and if you have any better suggestions, and post them here. -ato |

Don't worry, I don't see it as an excuse. We all have lives and other projects brewing (whether it's educational or real jobs) so don't worry too much, I for one understand and find myself in the same boat a lot of the time. > We should really get a discussion about Thix going here in the mailing > lists! Agreed, where on earth should we begin? Thix is still very much in its infancy stage so the topic of conversation is pretty much an open book. It's Tudor's brainchild, I'd like to see where he would like to see things go/proceed. Perhaps we can hash out some ideas and come up with a timeline sorts. I think that would be pretty beneficial to the project. -=tim --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Sadly enough, the Thix project has been dead for some time, partily because of me never getting those websites online. Yes, I know, I've been slow at it. One of the reasons is that I got lots of upcoming exams (German tomorrow). This is my final year, and I have to do good. This is, however, not a good excuse, and I'll see if I can get them updated within the weekend, but as some of ye might know, I'm also working on another project (named Viator Online) and I have an ETA for that this Sunday. We should really get a discussion about Thix going here in the mailing lists! Ooo yes, I've changed e-mail address from at...@it... to at...@on.... Online (Telenor) is my ISP, and I finally got "ato", as I applied for. @itnerd.net will also work, but please send all requests to @online.no. Thanks. -ato |
