The files in build/<package>/build/conf/*, are samples. They document the variables that a package can use. The are assembled during build to create a thinstation.conf.sample and not actual configuration files. That actual file used for configuration is thinstation.conf.buildtime. The process for including an additional CA certificate is documented here https://github.com/Thinstation/thinstation/wiki/Certificates for thinstation classic and https://github.com/Thinstation/thinstation-ng/wiki/Certificates for thinstation-ng On Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 04:48:44 AM MDT, Evers, Frank <fra...@lk...> wrote: Hello everyone, my name ich Frank Evers and I’m new to ThinStation. Cc: Don Cupp Subject: [Thinstation-general] ThinStation Revival and Future Plans Dear ThinStation Community, I hope this message finds you well. Some of you may have noticed that ThinStation development has resumed after a significant hiatus. I want to take a moment to share some updates and future plans for the project. Reactivating ThinStation has been both an exciting and challenging endeavor. As many of you know, building an operating system involves the intricate task of compiling and integrating numerous open-source projects. Each component plays a critical role, and ensuring they all work harmoniously requires substantial effort. One of the key challenges I've faced is maintaining the underlying infrastructure. After thorough investigation, I have decided to explore a significant shift in our approach. Moving forward, I am considering transitioning ThinStation's base to utilize dnf and RPM packages. This change would replace our current ports and packages system, streamlining updates and maintenance. By leveraging the robust ecosystem of dnf and RPMs, I believe we can ensure greater stability, security, and scalability for ThinStation. This transition will not be immediate, and I welcome any feedback, questions, or suggestions you might have as we navigate this path together. Your support and input have always been invaluable, and I look forward to collaborating with all of you to keep ThinStation thriving. Thank you for your continued dedication to ThinStation. Hi Don Of course I would prefer PKG like in Debian but RPM is also a good choice. Will try to help you if I could. 05.11.2024 23:54, Don Cupp via Thinstation-general пишет: > Dear ThinStation Community, > > I hope this message finds you well. Hi Donald, I’ve been lurking in the background on this list for many years. I never really got Thinstation into production in my office but always thought it was a great concept. I’m retired now but who knows I may just download and install it again just for fun. Good luck implementing the new upgrades and changes. It all sounds very interesting. I’ll watch this space Thanks David > On 6 Nov 2024, at 7:54 AM, Don Cupp via Thinstation-general <thi...@li...> wrote: > > Dear ThinStation Community, > > I hope this message finds you well. Hi All, Here is a small patch for correct operation of the tftp client (busybox-1.37.0) in Thinstation-6.3.2. Configuration files are not loaded from tftp server without this patch. Something like that tftp client in busybox version greater than 1.34.1 considers the ">" symbol to be a port number. -- SY, Nikolai. |

I need some testers for this new feature. If you already run DevStation, you can update it and the new feature will be available. You will need at least two network adapters for this to work, as it does setup routing, and you don't want to start a DHCP server on a network that already has one. This is a simple GUI frontend that will configure dnsmasq to act as a DHCP/DNS server and setup masquerade forwarding. I figured this might be a nice addition to make a PXE boot network in a box kind of thing. Let me know of any bugs, or useful wanted features for something like this. Best Regards,Donald A. Hi All, I have a thinstation build that boots from USB and up until recently my builds have performed perfectly. I did a new build for some new hardware (all modules, all firmware) and it went OK. The new laptop has a 1920x1080 display and after boot, SESSION_0 is XFWM4 and autostarts, SESSION_1 is type CHROME and also autostarts with the option --start-maximized. When it does this, It appears that chrome is opening maximized at 1280x1024 while the Xorg window is taking the full screen. (as you can see in the attached photo) Trying to figure out how to have chrome utilize all available screen real-estate. have done multiple builds and its just not cooperating. Its obvious that the system knows I have 1920x1080 but XFWM4 doesn't seem to have got the memo. Any suggestions? TIA, Ron Griffin [image: IMG_2333.jpg] |

Hallo everybody, I am trying to set up my installation so that the login to vmview is done automatically with a general account. The students can then see the Desktop Pool and have then to use their login to connect to a computer. It does not work for me. I changed the vmview.conf to this: SESSION_0_TITLE="VMware View" SESSION_0_TYPE=vmview SESSION_0_SCREEN=1 SESSION_0_AUTOSTART=On SESSION_0_VMVIEW_SERVERURL= myserver.something.org SESSION_0_VMVIEW_FULLSCREEN=false SESSION_0_VMVIEW_NONINTERACTIVE=true SESSION_0_VMVIEW_DESKTOPNAME=Pool SESSION_0_VMVIEW_USERNAME=user SESSION_0_VMVIEW_PASSWORD=password Does this part have to go in the thinstation.conf.buildtime instead? Thanks for any thoughts and input. Bettina |

Hi,
Still moving from 6.1 to 6.2. Everything important is working.
I just got two features not working (it's "just" look and fell, but it's
important for users) :
First : my thinstation.conf.buildtime and build.conf are exactly the
same in each version
1 - Theme :
In ts-6.1, I managed to get beautiful windows, with rounded corners,...
I think I made this with GTK_THEME=Xfce option.
It doesn't work no more, I get pure vintage gtk look...
I don't know where I could find a way to solve that.
2 - Backgrounds :
I use a lot of profiles for different departments, and I used to use a
different background for each. I use profile files
(thinstation.conf.group-... on tftp server), and I made a little
customization to enable this feature : background files are on tftp, and
download during ts boot.
I just add a little piece of code in
build/packages/base/etc/thinstation.functions, just after the lines :
###
use_wallpaper ()
{
if is_enabled $USE_WALLPAPER && [ -e /bin/wmsetbg ] && [
"$WMNAME" != "xfwm4" ]; then
###
I add this code, that simply downloads the right picture from tftp
server and copy it as /etc/background.jpg :
###
if [ ${TS_BACKGROUND_FILE} ]; then
if [ -n ${TFTP_BG_REP} ]; then
remotebg=${TFTP_BG_REP}/${TS_BACKGROUND_FILE}
else
remotebg=${TS_BACKGROUND_FILE}
fi
tftp -g ${SERVER_IP} -l /etc/background.jpg -r
${remotebg}
fi
###
TS_BACKGROUND_FILE and TFTP_BG_REP are declared in profiles files.
It worked in ts 6.1 (and older versions I used before), but now, when ts
boots, I can see the picture as desktop launches (download of picture is
OK), but as soon as icons appear, the picture is replaced by a grey
background (though I can see little pieces of the pictures in
transparent parts of icons). It seems the background is still present,
but hidden behind a grey screen.
It sometimes did the same on previous versions, but only from time to
times (most of the time, picture was OK).
Nothing really important, some would say, but offer something clean and
not too ugly to users is important for me ;-)
Regards
E.T.

Just some more infos : Default link in build.urls for openkiosk doesn't exist anymore (mozdev changed their package repository's structure). It seems the working version in thinstation is 68.3.0 (https://openkiosk.mozdevgroup.com/dropbox/okcd/68.3.0/openkiosk-68.3.0-2020-01-30-x86_64.tar.bz2) I tried a more recent version available (91.0 / Release 11), and openkiosk failed to launch (I didn't test the other releases for 91.0, though). Hi, I finally found the solution : First, I didn't choose the right archive for openkiosk (i686 instead of x86_64). With the right architecture, it works ;-) One more time, the bug sat in front of the screen ;-) Second, I found how to update openkiosk, just taking a look at files in packages/openkiosk, and you find all you need (script remove). Many thanks, again, to Don and thinstation team for your work on this really efficient tool. Regards E.T. Hi all, I'm moving from ts 6.1 to 6.2, and I can't get openkiosk working. I installed and configured it as usual. When I try to use a profile I'm using since a lot of years, openkiosk fails with message : "/lib/openkiosk/openkiosk : no such file or directory". It's just amazing, since the file is actually present(browsing directories with xterm on a booted ts systeme) Trying to launch on command line : same issue (trying to launch /bin/openkiosk does the same, although this file is present too). I use : https://openkiosk.mozdevgroup.com/dropbox/okcd/68.3.0/openkiosk-68.3.0-2020-01-31-i686.tar.bz2 My thinstation.conf.group-kiosk profile file : SESSION_0_TYPE=openkiosk SESSION_0_TITLE="Navigateur Kiosk " SESSION_0_AUTOSTART=On SESSION_0_ICON=On SESSION_0_OPENKIOSK_OPTIONS="-width 1280 -height 1024" SESSION_0_OPENKIOSK_RESET_TIMER="2" SESSION_0_OPENKIOSK_HOMEPAGE=https://www.google.com SESSION_0_OPENKIOSK_SERVER=https://www.google.com What do I miss ? Second question, in case I had to : How could I change version ? I guess I have to modify openkiosk url in build.urls, but then, which command to force openkiosk version replacement? You could also make a key and place it on a smartcard, if you think you will need to re-use a key. I did put the code in for that.

prt-get install kernel-keys, will generate a key set.rebuild-kernels -k && rebuild-kernels -m, will rebuild the kernel and module packages, sign everything with the new key, and then you can build and sign whatever module you want.

Thinstation 5.6. The kernel is built with the

'/usr/src/kernels/4.14.70TS_64/scripts/sign-file sha256
/etc/ssl/keys/kernel.key /etc/ssl/certs/kernel.crt
/ts/build/packages/XXX/lib/modules/XXX.ko'
Thinstation 6.2. The kernel is also built with the

Where can I get these keys without having to rebuild the entire kernel?
Thanks in advance.

In 6.2, we use ephemeral keys for kernel signing.
prt-get install kernel-keys, will generate a key set.rebuild-kernels -k && rebuild-kernels -m, will rebuild the kernel and module packages, sign everything with the new key, and then you can build and sign whatever module you want.

Hello! I'd like to update the kernel to 6.2 or higher to support the latest Intel Media Driver for the AlderLake-N N95 cpu. Any manuals? How can I do this to make the DevStation build an image with the latest kernel? Thanks and best regards. Thomas. |

It depends on whether or not you can add a public key to the keyring of the VM that you want to boot via secureboot. We have all the architecture to support secureboot, but we are currently in the process of getting a shim signed by microsoft. Until then, you have to register a key with the firmware of the machine.

Hi all. I'm returning to thinstation after a decade away and I'm trying to find a way to get a thinstation CD to boot up with Secure Boot. Specifically, I'm trying to get a Thinstation CD ISO to boot up in HyperV as a Gen 2 VM with all the security turned on ( Secure Boot, TPM enabled, etc).
I know it can generate UEFI bootable images, but SecureBoot seems to be a bit of a sticking point.
Has anyone managed to do this so far?
Thanks!
