Hi All, Ok, here it goes 2.2 final. Changes below. Note I have not included any NX 2.0 client changes. This will be in a 2.2.1 release. Note I will upload the final source tomorrow. Planning a short release cycle for 2.2.1, which will include updated kernel, NX, xorg, firefox etc... Not much in new features besides updates. 2.2.2 will add some more smaller features. Thought I'd give you an update on my whereabouts the last few weeks. I've had a new job opportunity I've been working towards for the last 12 months come nearly to fruition. So things have been very busy in my work environment. My home environment has also been very busy with an 8 month old daughter, so TS has taken a poor 3rd or 4th place. Things are starting to be more settled now so will hopefully have some more time over next couple of months. The last big hurdle is being successful in this new job opportunity. My interview is on the 27th November, wish me luck :o) Bye Miles Thinstation 2.2(Many Authors & Contributors) Release Date: 16/10/06 * Changed Version Number * Fixed type1-fonts package, lib directory missing, reported by Francis SOUYRI <francis dot souyri at apec dot fr> * Efficency gain, reduced memory requirement for loading PKG files, changes made to PKG script file from Francis SOUYRI <francis dot souyri at apec dot fr> * Removed scp duplications from hdupate package, add scp package if you want scp support in hdupdate * Updated some 1000 network cards in the build.conf.example file which were missed * Module MPKG file loading fixed, Fix from Nikolai V. Ivanyushin <nvi at sven dot ru> * Updated rdesktop to 1.5.0 |

Hi All, Couple of fixes. Planning for this to be the last rc release so would like a fairly comprehensive series of tests. Note an addition has been made to the administration page in the www package. You can now modify runtime parameters through the web interface. Note, for these to be permanent you must have one of the STORAGE types setup. Note also another signification backend change is the splitting of the network script into a interface part and a configuration file part. I've tested this and seems ok on my setup, but will need comprehensive testing. If this causes problems I'll be reverting to the previous version before final release. I'm fairly confident of minimal issues in any case. Files are uploading at moment but won't be available on SF until I getup tomorrow morning. My goal for 2.2 release is for end of this month. G'Night Miles Thinstation 2.2rc4(Many Authors & Contributors) Release Date: 13/06/06 * Changed Version Number * Fixed a regression dillo bug with fonts, corrected source so regression won't happen again, reported by Mike * Thomas reported a missing symlink for ica in the PCSCD package, fixed * Fixed bug with gempc410 package that Thomas reported * Fixed spelling mistake parmters in build.conf.example * Fixed bug with mpkg files, modules loaded at runtime * Fixed bug with pkg files, packages loaded at runtime * Applied Thomas Karlsson's patch for --savedir parameter with build script * Split out network config file loading and network interface coming up into seperate scripts, to allow openvpn and other packages to remain modular * Modification to www package administration page, to allow runtime modifications of thinstation.conf files, note any modifications are lost at reboot unless your STORAGE_PATH or STORAGE_CONFIG option is set correctly. * Fixed missing symlink with thinstation.user file * Included Mikes icons for 2x. Thanks Mike :o) * Fixed directory under GemPC430 for usb card readers * Added checking to 2x script so asks for a server value if none is specified |

Hi All, Rc3 is out. This release wasn't so much effected by a feature freeze, must have been a slightly warmer day ;o) So some new features. Major change is you no longer need to be root to build or untar the distro. There is also the addition of a 2x client package, open vpn package by Nikolai V. Ivanyushin, some card reader packages by Thomas Karlsson. Lastly the www telnet package seems fixed. Ok, the ice age has begun, no new packages will be going into 2.2.... honest. The next release rc4 will be the final release for the rc series, after this 2.2 is final. Please test and be merry, report bugs - and fixes are good too ;o) Cheers Miles Thinstation 2.2rc3(Many Authors & Contributors) Release Date: 03/06/06 * Changed Version Number * Build script no longer needs to be run as root first time, or thinstation distro no longer needs to be untarred as root, using a static squashfs image to store needed device files, custom initrd is created then appended to this * Added -all-root to makesquashfs image as suggested by Trevor * Fixed problem with buildtime config for ts-o-matic * Removed nfs dependancy from tclkit * Added 2x client application package. Had to make some mods to build script as 2x=xx causes shell problems. * Added README.BUILD notes on conf files, words taken from trevor * Patches to VolControl page on www package from Wojciech Sciesinski * Updated to dillo 0.86 * Upgraded to busybox 1.1.3 * Updated example file to Mikes server for NX client * Updated wireless tools to version 28 * Applied Nikolai V. Ivanyushin wireless patch * Added Nikolai V. Ivanyushin package to base distro, openvpn, included a patch to openvpn from Nikolai. * Updated AUTHORS file * Updated to syslinux 3.11 from 3.09 * Recompiled kernel with tun module support * Updated example file with rdesktop version * Added smbclient package * Added pcscd package from Thomas Karlsson <thomas dot karlsson at relea dot se> * Changed getserver flag to getip, makes consitant with thinstation.packages script * Fixed bug with xorg template file, fix from Igor Naumov <igornaumov at yahoo dot com> * Applied minor patch from Dr J Pelan for a couple of documentation errrors in build script and example file * Tested telnet module via web interface. This now works ok, a release of busybox must have fixed it. |

Anton Borisov has made a couple of wonderful packages for Thinstation for anybody interested in astronomy. Here is what Boris has to say: *** Welcome to a wonderful world of space, sky and navigation. I'd like to introduce three packages more or less connected with astronomic observations, or speaking precisely: Celestia 1.4.1, Free Space Simulation Program Stellarium 0.8.0, Virtual Planetarium XEphem 3.7, Interactive Astronomy Program Some of these programs (especially XEphem) require sometimes a huge database (about several Gb) to run the way they were designed, however it was possible to release them as packages to Thinstation project (was tested with TS2.2rc2). Celestia (C) 2001-2005, Chris Laurel et al. http://celestia.sf.net Stellarium (C) 2000-2006, Fabien Chereau et al. http://www.stellarium.org XEphem (C) 2005 by Elwood Charles Downey http://www.xephem.com http://linux.kaos.ru/download/celestia-1.4.1_TS.2.2.tar.bz2 (MD5 <http://linux.kaos.ru/download/celestia-1.4.1_TS.2.2.tar.bz2%28MD5> = 14429c719c512d860ac0dbd644d000 af) http://linux.kaos.ru/download/stellarium-0.8.0_TS-2.2.tar.bz2 (MD5 <http://linux.kaos.ru/download/stellarium-0.8.0_TS-2.2.tar.bz2%28MD5> = 6c06fc35ec43b4bf73d1b310af97c275) http://linux.kaos.ru/download/xephem-3.7_TS-2.2.tar.bz2 (MD5 <http://linux.kaos.ru/download/xephem-3.7_TS-2.2.tar.bz2%28MD5> = 2d4c111def90011b03644eb5aa21eb91) Please try it and enjoy. |

Hi guys. I've added a GUI text editor for use with TS 2.1. Beaver is a light editor but quite capable IMHO. Read the announcement on http://thinstation.sf.net There you can see a few screenshots as well (note: the screenshots are not taken on TS!). You can get it from the download page at SF. Hi All, Due to my stuff up, I've missed the sourceforge mysql database update. Which means our Wiki is down. Looks like I'm not the only one looking at the SF support requests. My apologies about this. I'll be working to try and get this fixed ASAP. I've made some changes to the thinstation project to prevent this happening again, Trevor and Mike are now project admins. This should stop important events like this from being missed. Again, apologies. Will post another announcement as soon as I have more info. Thanks Miles |

A little more than one year ago, we had a poll about how many Thinstations you guys were operating. Wouldn't it be fun to see where we are today?! Vote before November 7th here: http://struktur.kemi.dtu.dk/thinstation/poll/ In case you operate more than 1000, please send me a mail directly to km_eriksen at sf.net. It will certainly be strictly confidentially and annonymous as is the poll. Mike -- Thinstation FAQ maintainer http://thinstation.sourceforge.net - a light, full featured linux based thin client OS |

What to do when your boss at the library gets sick of the always broken public MS Windows terminals and ask you to replace them with "something better" - for no money, no new hardware, no new management resources - and within two months... Cameron Miller at Adams State College faced this recently, and here is the tale...(hint: Thinstation was useful :-) Read on here: http://thinstation.sourceforge.net/press/cdmiller.html Thanks Cameron! Anyone with an interesting Thinstation story is welcome to write to Mike about it and get a similar story published supporting thin clients in general and particulary Thinstation. Hi all! With some month of delay ;o) I've updated prebuilts to TS 2.1.1... both the LiveCD and the Network-boot... Main adds are: - the Live-CD can be installed on a HD (by hand...don't expect a graphical installer!), as it now will search his config file on the HD also - the network-boot version contains not only the network boot floppy, but also the network-boot CD and an HD-installable version - sound support - plus all the other updates of TS 2.1.x (new drivers, new terminal clients and so on...) bye! -- Paolo Salvan _______________________________ X v i s i o n Via Vigonovese 123A 35127 - Padova - Italy +39 049 8709427 tel +39 049 8709426 fax www.xvision.it |

Hi All, Here it is 2.1 Final :o) Just a couple of notes. Not all patches that I have been sent have made it in. Due to various reasons, some time, some I don't think should be released globally. Some will make it in 2.2 and some need more testing. That said, enjoy. If there are any problems there will be a 2.1.1 release in short time. Otherwise I'm getting back to feature updates for 2.2. I will release the source to 2.1 in a day or two. Ran out of time tonight.
