The patch that francis wrote is already in 2.2.1! But when you want to use it (when you have a machine with SATA disks) then you mis the modules that are needed (CONFIG_SCSI_SATA=y and CONFIG_SCSI_ATA_PIIX=y) So there's nothing that has to change to the packages or code from TS itself, only the kernel should be recompiled with the two extra options.
