RE-POST - I forgot to reply back to the list as well as Miles -------------------------------------------------------------- I Will have a look later on today. Basically all 4 usb modems I've tried were NON cdc_acm compliant, I've since ordered two more to do some further testing on. I'm really concerned about hard-coding dial-up passwords in a build, and not being able to change them periodically. I think once it's working I'm going to: 1) Run the auto-config as you planned 2) Then, auto-magically search the floppy drive for wvdial.conf and copy(overwrite) into /etc if present 3) Then, auto-magically search the usb drive drive for wvdial.conf and copy(overwrite) into /etc if present 4) Then dial using the "default" settings in /etc/wvdial.conf This allows me to keep changing passwords by issuing a new file on floppy disk or usb storage, and I don't ever have to "reveal" it in a build. This will most likely be a mobile/laptop solution that could get lost or left behind, and dial-up access worries me enough as it is. Thanks Jason P.S. If anyone on the list is a PPP or WVDIAL wizard, please drop me a line Jason . meers (at) mv-online . co . uk On Wed, 2005-07-27 at 10:31 +1200, Miles Roper wrote: > Hi Jason, > > Have you had a look at the pppd package I included with 2.2? > > the pppd package does a auto config, is you look at the script > > pppd/etc/init.d/pppd that should make some sense > > nohup wvdial --config $DIALUP_CONFIG & > > automatically detects the modem, it looks on any com ports and usb device and then creates the > config. this is why I wanted to use it. keeps things simple. only problem I remeber I got stuck > with it had problems with serial or usb modems, can't remember which, wanted to upgrade to a newer > version of wvlibs but couldn't get it to compile.
