I thought I had done it before, but search scripts is something I scrapped and redid more than once. The code is not too hard, but I think before 0.2 there should be a radio button or something on the search.php3 page to search through comments as well as news, maybe even also users.
what about adding a radio button to pass parameters to an external script that search in the static pages on the web site?

It's only been 4 months or so... and I am finally closing this wishlist item. It's in CVS.
