It seems that even when i have the automatic spell-check option disabled, it still performs automatic spell-check to my text.

Yes agreed it completely ignores that option now, will need to fix.

Fixed in r652. Previously applied any changes to the spell-checker option in the preferences pane only to newly opened tabs. Now updates all currently opened tabs as well.
