Hello,

I think that LaTeX is a bit different from a pure programming language and therefore I think that a LaTeX text editor should have special functionality like image preview,
math objects preview and, for example, a "wrap at column" or "wrap at character" functionality. Something similar to AucTeX for Emacs.
The important thing is to keep the editor as a real editor, like Emacs, not like LyX.

In my opinion an image preview, appearing for example under the \includegraphics command, and a "wrap text at character" option are the most important feature to boost the diffusion of LaTeX and, at the same time, to make the revision of a document easier.

Thank you.
Best Regards

For me it would be nice if when you have compiled your LaTex file and preview it in a PDF viewer, if there is a possibility to click on a error and then end at the correct place in the LaTex file.
Or maybe also a automatic preview who actualise the pdf live during the typing of Latex.

Maybe you think about forward and inverse search, which already exist in Texmaker and TexmakerX, both for dvi and pdf viewer. (See also SyncTeX support)

Or maybe also a automatic preview who actualise the pdf live during the
typing of Latex.

This tool already exists too. For Windows there is LaTeX Daemon at this site: http://william.famille-blum.org/software/latexdaemon/index.html

However I think that the continuos compilation of the document is not the right way to work with LaTeX, for several reason. One of these reason is that many people work with small monitors and switching window is very annoying.

I think, as I said before, that the right way to work with LaTeX is by a simple but powerful editor. The phylosophy of LaTeX is that the author can focus only on the content of its document. However to do this, image preview and a better way to "see" the text are necessary.

Ciao ciao.

• A preview within the plain text like in auctex is not possible with qcodeedit, but we've already added an (experimental) preview for the currently selected text on a separate panel in the SVN version

But what do you mean with "wrap text at character" option?

A preview within the plain text like in auctex is not possible with
currently selected text on a separate panel in the SVN version

A bad and a good news :)
The idea of the panel is very nice. In fact sometimes I use some tools, like latexeqedit, to compose very complicated math objects.

But what do you mean with "wrap text at character" option?

Sorry for my poor explanation (and my \emph{very} poor english).
I mean the possibility to force the wrap of the text, for example after the 80th character, regardless of the dimension of the program window.
A simple option where you can choose at which character (or column if the font is monospaced) the text has to be wrapped.

I think that in this way the text paragraphs in the source code are more readable.

I hope I succeeded to explain my idea!

Thanks.
Ciao ciao.

• So you meant the same with "wrap at column" and "wrap at
character", and this weren't two different wrapping functionalities you wished?

character"

Yes yes, the same.
