Annoying Features of TexStudio

  • Anonymous - 2012-10-17

I started recently to use TexStudio and it is very nice TeX editor indeed.
However there are few annoying features which make its usage really

    1) brackets highlighting: If the cursor is next to bracket of any sort ( or {,
this is solid red, and there is no possibility to understand from which side
of the bracket the cursor is actually is (even moving it with arrow to one
position left or right does not change that solid red highlighting). This is
especially disturbing when editor inserts automatically closing bracket for
    2) autocompletion of commands which TexStudio Editor does not know about, e.g.
try to type text comments in math mode:

    $\alpha=\gamma+\betta ~\text{this is formula}~ a+b=c$

    and you will get :

    $\alpha=\gamma+\betta ~\textbf{this is formula}~ a+b=c$

So I always need to correct \textbf->\text

The same for some custom commands, e.g. if I defined some new command, say
"\d{..}" , if you try to use it you will have:
--- if you want $\d(mv)$ you will get: $\dagger(mv)$
---if you want $\d{mv}$ you will get $\date{mv}$

Perhaps there is possibility to switch off the autocompletion at all, but I
need this feature. Perhaps autocompletion must be engaged only when user press
Enter to aoutocomplete from the proposed list of commands.

    1) txs 2.5 has a wider cursor which is visible in placeholders
    2)deactivate config/completion/complete selected tex when non-word character
    is pressed (advanced option)

Where could I find a list of new features of the new versions i.e. change log? Ah just found it under C:\Program Files\TeXstudio\help. It would be helpful to have the changelog available as a link on the website. This way users can see what features and bug fixes they'll be getting with the new version - and whether it's worth upgrading. Just a suggestion :)

Thanks a lot, I updated to 2.5, and point (2) solved the problem as well.

    @Jan Sundermeyer
Thank you very much. That was very helpful. I have struggled with this problem (no 2 above) for long time. Finally, it is over! I am glad.
