    Hello,

I would like to know when you plan to provide the next release. My question
isn't intend to stress you! And I could understand if your answer is: "When it
    will be ready!" :)

But, as I'm starting to prepare the DVD-ROM of a book for LaTeX beginners I'm
writing with Jean-Côme Charpentier (xlop package author, among other
contributions), I'd like to know if I have a chance to include the fresh, new
and pretty cool next version of TexMakerX, or if I have to distribute the
    (also already cool) current version.

BTW, the directory where are stored templates is called 'benibela' (the alias
of Benito if I'm right). This name could look rather strange to new users,
    couldn't it?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Best regards.

until when do you need a new release ?
    And for what platform(s) ?

    Denis Bitouzé - 2010-07-07

I'll have to send a prototype of the DVD-ROM to the publisher before
24-07-2010 for tests. We also describe in the book the main features of
TexMakerX, sometimes with screenshots, and it could be nice to explain the
last version to the readers. On the 14 chapters of the book, 9 have already
been (re)written (in fact, it is a second edition) and we could do some slight
    modifications until 20-08-2010.

The required platforms are the three ones :)

    1. Jean-Côme and me are GNU/Linux users so it would be nice to have the new version of TexMakerX on this platform to test and take screenshots.
    2. Windows is a common platform used we guess by most of the readers so it is very important to have this one.
    3. Well, Mac user often prefer native editors as TeXShop. But, as we describe TexMakerX in details in the book, it could be nice to provide it to the Mac readers. And, last but not least, I gave a LaTeX lesson for beginners last week and one of the particpant, who was a Mac user preferred TexMakerX :)

    Many thanks!

in my opinion, tmx is pretty stable at the moment.
What is missing are translations (French etc.) and the manual has to be
    updated.

(one might also think about changing the format option widget, as it seems to
be a little complicated (font as text, size, priority))

Well, I could help you for the French translation. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

I started to complete French translation. May I take the liberty to add
shortcuts as I suggested in the thread:

    when I said:

"It could be nice that not only submenus can be reached by shortcuts: at this
time, menu entries cannot be reached by shortcuts."

    and:

``I mean that, with underlined characters, for instance "Environments" submenu
of "Latex" (BTW shouldn't it be "LaTeX"?) menu may be reached with shortcut
Alt+L+E. But it could be nice if for instance the "\maketitle" entry of the
"LaTeX" menu would be also reachable with a shortcut, for example Alt+L+K by
underlining the "k" character of "\maketitle".''

    sure, go ahead

Well, I finally had no time to add all the shortcuts I'd like. I finished to
    translate all the fields but:

    1. some of them weren't available: in Qt linguist, it was written "File /home/bitouze/InstallationsLocales/texmakerx-new/trunk not readable".

    2. I noticed strange shifts between fields. I hope all is right now.

    3. I didn't had time to check the already translated fields. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

    4. I replaced Ascii arrow "->" by utf-8 one "→" (AltGr+i on my Linux French Keyboard).

    5. I didn't check consistency of shortcuts in a given (sub)menu.

    6. I don't know where to put the file so I make it available on my personal pages here:

    http://gte.univ-littoral.fr/members/dbitouze/pub/latex/divers/fichier-
    traduction/downloadFile/file/texmakerx_fr.ts

    Best regards.

you need to generate the *.qm file.
The command is lrelease (it can be done in the linguist as well).

  • Denis Bitouzé

    Denis Bitouzé - 2010-07-10

OK, thanks. I'm checking what I did and I have to modify some of the fields.
I'll let you know when I'll have finished.

BTW, the either the entry menu (LaTeX → List Environments → \item) and the
shortcut -Ctrl+Maj+I) for the \item command doesn't add a space after the
resulting included command '\item' and one have to do it manually. Wouldn't it
be possible to correct this behavior?

  • Jan Sundermeyer

    Jan Sundermeyer - 2010-07-10

i think that is intentional as it is texmaker-behaviour (maybe for adding )

    I uploaded here:

    http://gte.univ-littoral.fr/members/dbitouze/pub/latex/divers/fichier-
    traduction/downloadFile/file/texmakerx_fr.ts

    the new translation file.

Here are some remarks about is.

    1. I added some comments sometimes on the translation by itself, and sometimes about the original source text (for instance, there are sometimes trailing spaces before punctuation signs in the English version).

    2. In the ConfigDialog, there is not enough space for the labels 'Tab space' and 'Close search and replace panel together' (in French but I guess also in English).

    3. In the QFormatConfig, 'normal' and 'escapeseq' are unavailable, neither in source text or as translation fields.

    4. I don't understand why, but the translations for 'Inline math mode $...$' and 'Display math mode \' in ConfigManager are ignored.

    5. IMHO, the main menu 'Latex' should be 'LaTeX'.

Do you think this translation will be integrated in the next release on Linux,
Mac and Windows? And is it possible for you to give me an approximative date
of this next release? These questions because I'd like to know if I can update
in the book the fields and messages I translated?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Best regards.

Yes, it is IMHO an annoying texmaker-behaviour. If I'm right, most of the
time, only '\item' command is used because itemize and enumerate lists are
more often used than description lists. And, with itemize and enumerate lists,
most of the time only '\item' command is used because it is rather uncommon to
    need to change item markers.

    3) can not be translated for technical reasons

    4) seems to work anyway

for completing the release, it may take some days, (provided nobody comes up
    with a grave problem)

Do you mean it is correctly translated with your personal build? If so, great!

OK, I can understand :) So I will start the update process of the fields and
messages I translated (and screenshots) in the book.

    Many thanks!

i have uploaded release candidates for wind and linux. Can anyone try them out
    ?

  • Denis Bitouzé

    Denis Bitouzé - 2010-07-11

I can try them out but could you give me an URL where to download them?

  • Jan Sundermeyer

    Jan Sundermeyer - 2010-07-11

    You can find them under:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/texmakerx/files/

    directory: Texmakerx SVN
there the files called version 1.9.9a-rc.

OK, thanks. Unfortunately, I'm using Mandriva Linux distribution which doesn't
use .deb but .rpm files. I can start test TexMakerX on Windows.

Install on Windows 7 went smoothly. Compilation is OK. Translations seem to be
    OK.

The only trouble I've seen is that the French dictionary is missing.
