TeXstudio has a nice feature to preview small parts of the document, but I
would prefer if this feature wouldn't kick in with a simple mouse-over-the-
math-expresion, but only when activated from the menu or keyboard shortcut. Is
there a way to disable this "mouse-over" activation of the preview?

Nevermind, I've found the option I was looking for under Adv. Editor ->
Special options -> Show preview as tooltip. Sorry for the noise. (BTW,
wouldn't it make sense to move this option to the Preview section of the
    config?)

Thanks. At first there was no change but now it is OK. Might be just closing and restarting TeXstudio, though I think that I had done that already without help. Or it could be the recent update.
Then I had removed the check "Preview" > "Show preview as tooltip on formulas in editor",
clicked "Preview" > "Display Mode:" "Always show preview in preview panel", and
I removed all three checks in "Adv. Editor" > "Show ..." , i.e.,
Options > Configure TeXstudio > Adv. Editor > "Show image tooltip on image files", "Show help as tooltip on text editor", "Show help on commands in internal pdf viewer (texdoc)".
