#2457 Floating space around condensed fonts

Dear Dev team,

I'm having a font space issue in the 2.14.18 stable version.

I use condensed fonts for commands as well as cite keys to save space for manuscript content. However, I see wired spaces before and/or after the text of condensed font in the latest version. It is technically not an inserted space because I cannot select and remove them (see pic below).

I have tested with DIN Condensed and Oswald Regular. This problem is assumed to be less severe with relaxed fonts.

Please consider fixing this. And comments are welcomed for similar issues.
