#2442 inline equation preview not working

Inline equation preview not working for when I hover over 'equation'. I am running TexStudion 2.12.16 on a windows 10 machine.

The code is

\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
\begin{equation}
\alpha
\end{equation}
$\alpha$
\end{document

The error is

you can find the ....tex in the temp directory. There you can see and try what goes wrong with the compilation ...
