Additionally to the version number, we compare the hg revision (not shown in the dialog).
Most likely the 2.11.2 build on gentoo is not based on the revision tagged as 2.11.2 in the repo: hg 6191 (c01fb289a5fe), but based on an earlier revision.
We do not provide builds for gentoo. You should ask the responsible gentoo maintainer.

It can create a lot of work for package maintainers and users, if a released version like 2.11.2 would be overwritten by someone with a later version.
I think gentoo users should not get an update information like that.
As suggested by you, I have opened a gentoo bug ticket pointing here. https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597574

There has been an incorrect tar ball in the initial release of 2.11.2. That has been corrected on October 11. Functionality should be the same except for a possibly one-off hg revision number. What's the hg revision in the About dialog?

Tim, could you make a new release soon please?
2.11.2 has changed after release and so we have no unique 2.11.2 release anymore.
A new release 2.11.3 would be the best way out of this. Thank you.

That's not correct. There is just one version of 2.11.2. The above mentioned bugs results in a message that there was a newer version of 2.11.2, but that's a bug.
Anyway, a new release is in preparation.

same on gentoo Linux. Could you fix this soon in 2.12.3?
I suggest, we will not provide 2.12.2 in gentoo and wait for the fixed version.

Hi Tim, thank you for your quick reply.
Do I understand it correct, that the version numbers are not unique?
Meaning 2.11.2 in the tar ball is a different version than 2.11.2 in hg?
The gentoo package relies on the tar ball:
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/app-office/texstudio/texstudio-2.11.2.ebuild#n11

Actually there were two bugs:

Exactly the same bug on 2.12.2 release, osx. So it is not fixed yet.
