When I use TeXnicCenter to open a PDF outputs file (using Adobe Reader and DDE commands), it will hang if I close Adobe Reader before the DDE command to open the file are sent.

When TXC opens Adobe Reader, the PDF file is not open immediately. Adobe Reader opens the file when TXC actually sends the DDF command to do so, after a brief delay. If Adobe Reader is closed before the DDE command is sent, TXC will hang.

Even while hung, if I open Adobe Reader manually again, TeXnicCenter will successfully send the DDE command and continue working normally.

TeXnicCenter 2.0 Beta 2 and Adobe Reader XI (11.0.3) on Windows 7 64-bit.

What you describe is actually normal behavior. I mean, I see the problem with the hanging, but does it not time out at some point?

Also, that issue is most likely not even in our hands. DDE is managed by Windows.

Do you have a suggestion on what different behavior you would like to have?

An "Executing DDE command, please wait..." dialog with an Cancel button would be a good idea.
