1. Add another category to the Object View for
equations.
2. Add equations to the Structure View.

This will allow the user to right click an equation in the
Structure View and insert a reference to it easily (which
is *very* often required for math/engineering documents).

Thanks!

    Hi John!

    You're very right here. We will go for this. The only problem
    is, that there are a lot of possible TeX-Commands to start an equation. And
    some users might even write there own environments/commands. So
    we first need a possibility to define LaTeX-Commands (using XML; this is
    already a feature request).

    Thanks for your request (actually, I
    always wanted to add such a request - but I never dared... ;-
    )))

    Ciao.Tino.

    There are two types of equations that can be referenced afaik,
    they are:

    \begin{equation}
    \begin{eqnarray}

    If it is quite easy to add support for these two, it would help a
    lot! :) Inline equations are never referenced, so it isn't needed
    in the structure viewer for functional (document-editing)
    reasons anyhow.

    John.

    Well, John, there are also other packages, that define equation-
    environments, which can be referenced. For example, AMSLaTeX
    defines the following
    environment:

    \begin{multline}
    \end{multiline}

    and so
    on and so on. But I know, what you mean and we will go for it. Maybe, we
    should first implement a version, whcih only interprets

    \begin{equation}
    \begin{eqnarray}

    and go for the others
    some other day.

    Ciao.Tino.

    Yes, I'm also voting for this feature.

    And it would be also nice to have bibliography items there.
    And, maybe... should we make a branch named "labeled items"
    and insert all labels (equations,tables,figures,etc) there?
    Then we should'nt be in a hurry to add equations as separate
    branch to the list.

    I have added the support of the simple \begin{equation} ....
    \end{equation}. The code is in the CVS. I will see if I can
    support also the \begin{eqnarray} so to have equation and
    eqnarray in the same list in the Objects view.

    I have also added the support of \begin{eqnarray}. If an
    equation or equation array has no label and no caption it is
    not shown in the structure and in the object list. (code in CVS)
