It would be nice if somebody tested the instructions (on a current version)
and added this info to Usage or something like that.  I'm not going to
think about it now, but if you're seriously interested in working on these
docs, we can talk about it.

    Just stumbled on this issue by chance... I think that ly2video¹ is basically what's this issue is about. I guess that replacing the MIDI audio track with a real instrument performance should be easy. See also this video.

    It seems that ly2video is not mentioned on lilypond.org.
