Janek's doing a lot of changes in how alignment works.  There are multiple issues related to that, and so the implementation details change slightly all the time as the code is adjusted to have more features and be more generic. 

Once these changes settle down - i.e. most of the issues labeled "Janek_alignment_changes" (see Janek_alignment_changes) are closed - the user documentation of grob alignment will need a thorough update.
