Joram Berger requested that, in line with the recommendations in Gould "Behind Bars", the final downward line of the ottava spanner should be solid, not dotted, and the line itself be aligned to the top of the ottavation text for ottavas above the stave, and to the bottom of the text for those below the stave.
For a sample implementation see the related issue 3865. Thanks to Gilberto for this design.
