Reported by Nick Payne:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-lilypond/2012-02/msg00463.html
With overlapping parts, Lilypond defaults to separating a dot from its notehead by placing the overlapping stem in between. According to Gould (p.57) this is incorrect. The overlapped stem should be placed after the dot.

This is not unintentional behavior, and personally i think that Gould is wrong here.
Here's an article on music engraving that supports Lily behavior: http://icking-music-archive.org/lists/sottisier/sottieng.pdf (section 1.8)

It depends. You might have a look at the Bärenreiter Urtext edition
of Bachs Chaconne for Violin solo (from the second partita BWV 1004)
-- sorry for not sending a scan since I don't have the score); I think
that Gould's solution would make it illegible.

I don't have it, either.
I guess that Lily behavior should depend on context; i think we cannot say anything specific until we get some scans.

I attach some examples from Breitkopf & Härtel 1879 which confirm the view of #c1 and #c2. Note the inconsistency about placing a dot between two stems; dot columns are mostly retained.
