The accent looks too big in this case. It would be nice if we had a few "ligatures" – instead of typesetting an accent and a legato sign, we placed a single tenuto-accent symbol (with better relative sizes).
Alternatively, we could just globally reduce the size of accents or increase the length of tenuto.

According to Gould, LilyPond's accents are definitely too wide. In her book, the ratio between the accent and the tenuto is about 1.25; Lily is over 1.5; for reference, Sibelius is narrower than Gould.

The Gould example is very artificial and thus ugly, it doesn't reflect the German typographic tradition IMHO. However, I agree that the accent could be *slightly* smaller horizontally.
On the other hand, I think that the tenuto line in LilyPond is often vertically too close to the note head, which irritates me more than a too large accent glyph...
