http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/ref-att.global.html#tei_att.style says:
"Unlike the attribute values of @rend, the @style attribute may contain whitespace."
But @rend can also contains whitespace: it is text() and even the example at
http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/ref-att.global.html#tei_att.rend
has whitespace in the value. So, this sentence should be deleted I guess.
@rend allows a space-separated list of values, not a value which can contain spaces. its datatype is not text(), but 1-many tokens.
I therefore claim the sentence is correct, albeit possibly not as clear as it could be.
I agree with Sebastian but propose I reword the note to say:
"Unlike the attribute values of @rend where they are separators the style attribute value may contain whitespace."
Marking as GREEN and assigning to myself to put some clarifying prose in.
