*Hello, I am using tcpick 0.2.1 in ubuntu 14.04.2 and have a problem with reassemble tcp packets. This statement doesn't work (tcpick -i eth0 -wR "port ftp-data") and sometimes shows this error (ERROR: error compiling filter "ftp-data"). Please test it or guide me if you know software that can do it. Regards* |

Hi, I would like to report a bug. I'm working on Mac OSX 10.9.4, with Tcpick 0.2.1. I got a « Segmentation fault: 11 » each time I run « $tcpick -h » , no matter which options are added. I tried it on Linux, this works perfectly. Thank you for your help. Regards, Chippek |

Hi all, I had a trouble creating a build for my OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks. I noticed other posts that pointed to compiling tcpick as a 32bit executable with: $ CFLAGS=-m32 ./configure $ make $ sudo make install But still I was getting the following errors after make: gcc -m32 -o tcpick args.o display.o lookup_tree.o lookup_query.o loop.o tracker.o tcpick.o write.o datalink.o verify.o colors.o time.o timer.o debug.o fragments.o quit.o msg.o -lpcap Undefined symbols for architecture i386: "_avail_filename", referenced from: _open_file in write.o "_verify", referenced from: _got_packet in loop.o ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture i386 clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) What helped me was removing all the __inline__ keywords from all the source files they were in: grep -rl __inline__ src/ | xargs sed -i '' -e 's/__inline__//g' And then following the above instructions: CFLAGS=-m32 ./configure make sudo make install Note that my knowledge of C is fading out with every year so I'm not sure if removing the __inline__ causes some hurt but I can finally run tcpick! when using --pipe <client or server>, a newline is inserted into the data stream at the end of every packet. The same behavior occurs when using the expanded flags, -S -Tf1 -Ef1 -bR<client or server>. The behavior does not occur when using -wR. to reproduce: 1. get a pcap capture file 2. tshark -r capture_file.pcap -Tf1 -Ef1 -wRS, creating a tshark_source_dest.dat file 3. tshark -r capture_file.pcap -S -v0 -Tf1 -Ef1 -wRS > file2. 4. observe that the md5 sum of file2 is different than the first file. 5. in a hexediting view, observe that 0x0A is inserted on packet boundaries. As it is, the -bR flag doesn't seem to be useful for its intended purpose - one can't just pipe it to other programs, since you don't know if the 0x0A is from the original packet or tcpick. this is on Debian, using tcpick 0.2.1 from the repositories. |

Hi all, i'm using tcpick for a my project and when I try to capture TCP connection by a managed switch, I cannot extract any stream. Instead, if I open the file with wireshark and then use the "Follow TCP stream" command, I can view all the payloads of the TCP Connection. At the following address, you can find the ".pcap" file: http://www.cloudshark.org/captures/25f180418c1f I use (to try to extract stream by tcpick) the following command: tcpick -r no_stream.pcap -wHC I didn't found any indications from internet about this problem. Can you help me, please? Many thanks for considering my request, Ing. Alberino Palmieri Ing. Alberino Palmieri Intecs S.p.A. Grazie e buon lavoro Ing. Alberino Palmieri |

I don't think tcpick has an option to put an arbitrary label into the file names. But you can easily do it outside of tcpick with the help of a shell script. Whether you are having tcpick exit on some condition (flags -e, -E…) or whether you terminate it with a signal, you can have a shell script waiting on it in order to rename all the files. For example your script could make a temporary directory for each tcpick execution, with mktemp -d, then call tcpick with the options you need, and then rename all the files that were created in the directory. Hi, I'm trying to rename the files output of tcpick (*.dat) because I want to set a specific name. For example, I want to change the tcpick_192.168.68.134_192.168.38.130_53504.dat in tcpick_strea_1.dat. I didn't found the specific command line options to do this. Can you help me? Hello, I'm a newbie to tcpick and would greatly appreciate your help. I'm trying to grab raw video data from a TCP stream, and here is what I've tried so far: 1. Capture packets while a Youtube video is playing, save capture to a pcap file using tcpdump 2. Use tcpick to rebuild and extract TCP data from the saved pcap file: sudo tcpick -r pixar.pcap -wHs -C, as per the notes at http://tcpick.sourceforge.net/?t=1&p=OPTIONS. However, the problem is that no file is saved. I was expecting to see a *.tcpick file to appear after the extraction. Additionally, I see the following terminal output: Starting tcpick 0.2.1 at 2012-09-11 18:03 EDT Timeout for connections is 600 tcpick: reading from pixar.pcap tcpick: done reading from pixar.pcap 4171 packets captured 0 tcp sessions detected When I capture from a live stream, say using "sudo tcpick -i eth0", I experience a segmantation fault. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid), 64 bit. Eventually, I would like to capture the stream in real time from, say, eth0 and pipe the raw data to an encoding module such as ffmpeg. Thanks much! Kiptoo |
