After half an hour of investigation, I finally found why the examples didn't work (for me). I copied a example script in the tcpdf folder, considering that this was the place to run it as it is the place where the fonts, include and config folders are located.
Big mistake. The examples work fine only when executed from the Examples folder, where all necessary stuff has been duplicated and completed.

The examples are already included in the default archive. Be sure you have downloaded the full version and not the minimal one.
