After many years, I finally started looking at TclPro again. After a bit of work, I finally got TclPro to build and prodebug to run from the CVS sources on Fedora Core 4. I'd like to offer some changes back to the CVS repository that I think would benefit others who may try to build this in the future. There wasn't too much that needed to be done, but a couple of patches were required to get things to build on FC-4, and updates to config.sub/config.guess were required for building on x86_64. Longer term, I'd like to produce packages for Fedora Extras so that all of TclPro (but prodebug, specifically) is easier to get for everyone. --Mike |

I guess you would have to use Tcl or whatever is at hand to validate the data being passed in because calling the 3rd party stuff. BTW, this list is for TclPro dev discussion (which is pretty much no longer developed). I would recommend something like comp.lang.tcl for an active discussion group. New to tcl and tcltest. A third party product uses tcl to maipulate information. If certain information is not correct within the system, and a proprietary function is called - the tcl script core dumps. Is there a way to catch this type of error without having a core dump? It seems impossible since access is not provided to the 3rd party's function code, just the ability to call it. Does this make sense? tia, dk |

Submission of Summaries Tcl/Tk 2005 will be held in Portland, Oregon USA from October 24 - October 28. The program committee asks all people using and developing with Tcl/Tk and extensions to submit papers and proposals for presentations at this conference. Past conferences have seen submissions covering a wide variety of topics including and not limited to: * Scientific and engineering applications * Industrial controls * Distributed applications and Network Managment * Object oriented extensions to Tcl/Tk * New widgets for Tk * Simulation and application steering with Tcl/Tk * Tcl/Tk-Centric operating environments * Tcl/Tk on small and embedded devices * Medical applications and visualization * Use of different programming paradigms in Tcl/Tk and proposals for new directions. * New areas of exploration for the Tcl/Tk language The submissions should consist of an abstract of about 100 words and a summary of maximum two pages. Omit extraneous or redundant information. Length is not a direct factor in judging the quality of the submission. Send submissions as plain text to <tcl2005 AT tcl.tk> no later than July 1, 2005. Authors of accepted abstracts will have until September 15, 2005 to submit their final paper for the inclusion in the conference proceedings. The proceedings will be made available on CD-ROM, so extra materials like code samples are welcome. The authors will have 20-25 minutes to present the paper at the conference. The program committee will review and evaluate papers according to the following criteria: * Quantity and quality of novel content * Relevance and interest to the Tcl/Tk community * Suitability of content for presentation at the conference Proposals may report on commercial or non-commercial systems, but those with only blatant marketing content will not be accepted. Application and experience papers need to strike a balance between background on the application domain and the relevance of Tcl/Tk to the application. Application and experience papers should clearly explain how the application or experience illustrates a novel use of Tcl/Tk, and what lessons the Tcl/Tk community can derive from the application or experience to apply to their own development efforts. Papers accompanied by non-disclosure agreement forms will be returned to the author(s) unread. All submissions are held in the highest confidentiality prior to publication in the Proceedings, both as a matter of policy and in accord with the U. S. Copyright Act of 1976. The primary author for each accepted paper will receive registration to the Technical Sessions portion of the conference at a reduced rate. Other Forms of Participation The program committee also welcomes proposals for panel discussions of up to 90 minutes. Proposals should include a list of confirmed panelists, a title and format, and a panel description with position statements from each panelist. Panels should have no more than four speakers, including the panel moderator, and should allow time for substantial interaction with attendees. Panels are not presentations of related research papers. Slots for Works-in-Progress (WIP) presentations and Birds-of-a-Feather sessions (BOFs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis starting in August, 2005. Specific instructions for reserving WIP and BOF time slots will be provided in the registration information available in June 2005. Some WIP and BOF time slots will be held open for on-site reservation, so we encourage all attendees with interesting work in progress to consider presenting that work at the conference. Registration Information More information on the conference will be available in April 2005 at the conference Web site and published on various Tcl/Tk-related information channels. 1. There is no "su...@aj..." any longer. Ajuba has been gone for a few years. 2. What's the date on the cvs repository? I don't remember whether anyone is still updating this code or not. You may have to juggle a few versions of Tcl to find one that works with it. 3. Okay, when you get to: % sh ../configure.in ../configure.in: line 7: syntax error near unexpected token = `module_data.tcl.in' there is your problem. configure.in is not a shell command, but a template for generating a shell command. I seem to recall you need to run the gnu "autoconf" program in that directory, which will then read various files and create a "configure" program from the templates. -- Tcl - The glue of a new generation. <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > Larry W. Greetings, We are facing some problem in using TclPro(1.5) on AIX 4.3.3. We need to combine all TCL scripts into one executable using the functionality of wrapping in TclPro (prowrap) We got the binaries for Tclpro for AIX (for 4.3.2) from sourceforge. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13969&package_id=28891 &release_id=54932 When we tried to wrap using prowrap, we are getting some errors: error sourcing uses file "wrapper/lib/bigwish.uses": can't read "prowrapUses::library_files(itk_demos)": no such element in array It looks like TclPro AIX does not contain itcl and itk libararies. Can someone help us ? Thank you ! |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. I'd like to get TclPro running, but I'm completely stuck. I'm running Red Hat Linux 9, and I've tried the binary installers out there but get the following: Installer error: couldn't execute "/home/novak/Projects/CS291/Software/tclpro1.4/unix/uzpln86": no such file or directory while executing "exec $unzip -Zt [FindFile $src $file" (procedure "install::calculateSizeAndCount" line 10) invoked from within "install::calculateSizeAndCount $::installImageRoot" (procedure "gui::showWindow" line 24) invoked from within "gui::showWindow" Note that the file uzpln86 exists and is executable, but it's apparently trying to invoke another executable that doesn't exist. I also tried compiling from source, using anonymous CVS checkouts from sourceforge. After (much) fooling around, I stumbled upon scant documentation that seems to suggest that you need TclPro installed in order to compile it from source: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=9981&group_id=13969 So: any tips on how to get this running? Thanks, Greg |

I just need the source code for 'libtbcload' from TclPro 1.2 so I can = build it on a RH 9 system with gcc 3.3.2 for use with compiled tcl code and a custom wish (also compiled on RH 9 but uses tcl 8.0.5). Unfortunately = using a newer tcl is not an option as we use a number of other tcl add-ons = that do not work with tcl 8.2, 8,3, etc. I looked at the CVS repository in tbcload. As far as I can tell the = earliest versions are TclPro 1.3/1.4beta based and make reference to "TclHandle handle" which apparently does not exist in 8.0.5. Thanks, Michael |

Hi Vince, I just had a look at it but strangely I see that the debugger projectInfo sourceFiles folders are empty in the TclProDebug folder in Tcl/Tk Mode This is in the Alphatk8.2b12.dmg archive. Or are they located elsewhere and I did not find them ? Besides, in Tclextensions, you have the 'parser' extension as a dll which will not run on OSX. Feel free to take the dylib I've compiled if you want : the pkgIndex.tcl will have to take care of the different platforms to avoid conflicts. The tclchecker code seems to be missing too. I'm just wondering also whether the extensions which are contained in your package can conflict with the ones which Daniel's distribution installs in /Library/Tcl. Which one will be found first ? In fact what I'd like to assemble is a complete package of TclPro for MacOSX (with parser, checker, compiler, tbcload etc), not only the debugger. Cheers Bernard |

Aamer, Not that I know of. Now the extensions are built, I'll try to assemble a whole package unless...: - there is any objection - some body has done it already - somebody is really willing to do it himself Cheers Bernard |

Hi all, In case someone is interested I have now built the TclPro 'tclparser','tclcompiler' and 'tbcload' extensions for MacOSX. They are intended to work with Daniel Steffen's Batteries Included Tcl distribution for OSX and have been built against his Tcl.framawork framework. I could run all the test files successfully from Wish Shell. They are built as dylibs to put in the Library/Tcl folder. They are packaged with a pkgIndex.tcl file so that a simple 'package require' is enough to load them. I've put them with some doc on my Web page http://webperso.easyconnect.fr/bdesgraupes/tcl.html I'll make the source available (+ CW Pro 8 project) to anyone who is interested. As Brent Welsh suggested me when I announced the release of the OS8/9 version of these libs a few weeks ago (my post of january 3rd on this list) I'll put all this stuff on the TclPro project page at SourceForge asap (very sorry that I did not do it before). Probably it could be a good thing now to make a single package of all the TclPro resources for OSX. Cheers Bernard |

Hi all, In case someone is interested I have built the TclPro 'tclparser', 'tclcompiler' and 'tbcload' extensions on Mac. They are intended to work with Tcl 8.4 I could run all the test files successfully and it seems it works OK with Wish, Tclsh and with the Alpha8 text editor as well. I tested them with a lot of different scripts. They are built as shared libraries Tbcload8.4.shlb, Tclcompiler8.4.shlb and Tclparser8.4.shlb to be installed in the 'Tool Command Language' subfolder of the Extensions folder (no support for 68k). I've put them (along with the source code and the CodeWarrior projects) on my Web page http://webperso.easyconnect.fr/bdesgraupes/tcl.html Direct link to download: http://webperso.easyconnect.fr/bdesgraupes/Downloads/MacTclProLibs8.4.hqx If these libs already exist somewhere, please forgive my ignorance and forget about my message. There is already a build of tbcload on SourceForge but it is for Tcl8.3. On the contrary, if it is deemed useful and if there is no objection, it could be put also on the SourceForge TclPro page. Cheers Bernard |

Hi All, I am trying to build tclpro debugger on the solaris Intel platform. But I am getting so many problems in installing the same. Please can you clarify my doubts regarding this and help me out in installing tclpro debugger. These are the steps done to configure: (1) run "autoconf" (2) sh "./configure --enable-gcc --with-tcl=/usr/local/lib/tcl8.3 tclpro debugger is dependent on these modules: projectInfo tcl_static tcl tclparser tk_static tk (1) I can build projectInfo module. There is no problem. (2) What is tcl_static. If it is different from the tcl then from where I can get it. For now I am assuming that the source for tcl_static is available in tcl. When I am trying to build tcl_static I am getting this error.. bash-2.00$ make tcl_static make: building module tcl_static Using makeProc=ConfigureAndBuildModule 23:53:56 Building module: tcl_static file mkdir /var/iw95000/work/home/iw95000/tclpro/tclpro/tclpro/build/solaris-sparc/tcl_ static/unix Generating new configure script in /var/iw95000/work/home/iw95000/tclpro/tclpro/tclpro/build/solaris-sparc/tcl_ static/unix couldn't change working directory to "/usr/local/lib/tcl8.3/unix": no such file or directory while executing "cd [file join $moduleSrcDir]" (procedure "ConfigureModule" line 62) invoked from within "ConfigureModule $moduleName $flavorStr $makeAction" (procedure "ConfigureAndBuildModule" line 2) invoked from within "$makeProc $moduleName $flavorStr $makeAction" (procedure "BuildModule::runBuild" line 109) invoked from within "BuildModule::runBuild -module tcl_static -flavor Debug -data ./module_data.tcl -makeAction install" ("eval" body line 1) invoked from within "eval BuildModule::runBuild $argv" (file "/var/iw95000/work/home/iw95000/tclpro/tclpro/buildenv/build_module.tcl" line 1) make: *** [tcl_static] Error 1 here "/var/iw95000/work/home/iw95000/tclpro/tclpro/tclpro" is the path where, I am trying to build. here our operating system is solaris but then also it is creating the directory named as "unix". I have given the path to tcl_static as /usr/local/lib/tcl8.3, which is the path where tcl source code is available. (3) make <module name> is the rule to build the module. What is the rule/config option to install the module at the different path (for e.g. /usr/local/bin) Above are the initial problems I am encountering in building the tcl_static module. The same problem also exist when I try to install tcl through "make tcl". Please help me in installing the same. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
