HI, The link http://www.tcl.tk:8123/plugin/tutorial on the page http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/tutorial/ is broken. Can you pleaserestore it..... Also Please let me know how can I pass parameters that are entered by the user into the ticlet to a webpage? I understand I need to use ::browser::getForm URL data but unfortunately I do not know how to pass the data entered by the user using above command. Please provide me some examples if you can.... I don't know that there will ever be any more plugin development for MacOS8/9, but the next generation plugin, which you can read more about by reviewing this lists archives http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Browse/Threaded/tclplugin-core may find itself an OS X champion sometime. I guess an OS9 champion could appear as well, but it seems most developers focus solely on OS X now. At this time, the 3.0 alpha does not work on Mac at all. I'm doing some testing of the new plugin. I've found a problem with=20 entry-widget focus on Mozilla1.2.1 / Linux Mandrake 9.0 (as Jeff said the= re=20 might be in his mail). If you go to the tclet at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/whiteowl/tclweb/169-tcl.html you'll see that there are various entrybox widgets. You should be able to= type=20 into these (as you can with the old plugin) but it doesn't seem possible = to=20 get focus into them with the new one. I have also tried this with=20 Netscape4.78 and that has the same problem. Okay, I've just done some more experimenting. It is possible to get focus= into=20 the entry widgets as follows: 1) place the cursor in one of the entryboxes and single-click - note that= =20 nothing seems to have happened 2) move the mouse and click in a shell window - note that focus is not en= ough=20 - you have to click 3) press <enter> or some keystroke in the shell 4) return the mouse to the tclet and voila - focus is as you'd expect it = and=20 it seems to behave properly until the page is reloaded. This method works for both the above browsers but is probably a bit cumbe= rsome=20 for users! Simon Geard |

Hello. I've been wondering about potential attacks on the host system using persist feature. The thing that looks like a small flaw is that directory name can be guessed (ie C:/Documents.../user/.../dir%d) - it looks like it's impossible to use it, but ... it'd still be better to protect it against guessing. For example using a 8bytes random characters directory name (this will give 2^48 possibilities to check when using base64 charset) will make it almost impossible to find the desired file. I'm a bit paranoid, but it doesn't hurt :) -- WK (written at Stardate 57060.9) "Data typing is an illusion. Everything is a sequence of bytes." -Todd Coram |

I re-installed for all users and now it is working for IE5.5 as well Mozilla1.2.1 (after copying the nptcl30.dll to its plugin dir because the installer doesn't find Mozilla). Hemang Lavana wrote: > Hello, > > I am having exactly the same problems as Wojciech. My system is > [cut] Ok, I finally got the 3.0 to work! I read a bit on the tclplugin's CVS version and found that it is a problem caused by not finding the dlls. The problem is that NpLoadLibrary() should look up both KHEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER... It only checks registry in LOCAL_MACHINE context. Anyway, you should copy some parts of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ActiveState\ActiveTcl to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ActiveState\ActiveTcl Especially CurrentVersion value and the 8.4.1.1 key. That helped me. I guess installing for everybody and not only current user would help - but I never install testing software for everybody. I hope NpLoadLibrary() will get some fix to look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER as well ;-) -- WK (written at Stardate 57060.9) "Data typing is an illusion. Everything is a sequence of bytes." -Todd Coram |

Hello, I am having exactly the same problems as Wojciech. My system is win2k-SP2, with IE5.5 and Mozilla 1.2.1. During installation it failed to find Mozilla and IE reported errors when I tried to run the demos. I also had ActiveTcl8.4 installed, so I uninstalled both ActiveTcl and TDK and re-installed TDK under C:/Program Files/TclDev. Now when I try to run the plugin demos in IE, it pops up an error message window: NpCreateMainInterp -- Failed to load Tcl/Tk dlls. I also tried with Mozilla after copying nptcl30.dll to its plugins directory but I get the same error message. I also tried installing TDK under C:/Tcl but it gives the same error. Any idea what could be wrong? Hemang. |

Hello. I wanted to check out the v3 plugin so downloaded and installed it (under C:\TDK - I don't want to mix it with my 8.3 in C:\TCL :). The system is Windows 2000+SP1, with IE5.0 and Mozilla 1.2. I installed it as myself (I have administrative rights to the 2000 box). During installation, it failed to find Mozilla... It seems that both IE and Mozilla (after copying nptcl30.dll to Plugins directory) get the 'Failed to load Tcl/Tk dlls!' error and crash... IE the hard way (drwtsn32.exe), Mozilla with a messagebox that it should be restarted. Has anyone tried to install TDK in directory other than C:\TCL? Can it be the problem that I also have 8.3 installed? [I do need 8.3 to test some apps still working on TclPro 1.4] -- WK (written at Stardate 57060.6) "Data typing is an illusion. Those of you who received the Tcl Dev Kit beta announcement will have noticed that it comes with a fully functional Tcl plugin (yeah!). The Tcl Dev Kit beta provides binaries and does the correct installation for what the plugin requires. You can get that from: http://www.ActiveState.com/TclDevKit/beta ActiveState has contributed all the changes for v3.0 back into the SF cvs project (tclplugin), so you can build it from there for platforms which we don't have binaries for. This email is to basically go over known issues to preempt lots of questions flooding my inbox. * I am basically targetting (read: testing) IE5+ and Mozilla 1+. This is an Netscape Plugin API plugin, so it should work with Opera and a few others, as well as Netscape 4 of course. * Focus in Mozilla on Unix. Mozilla doesn't like giving focus to the plugin on unix (Windows OK). This is important for receiving key events, but not for mouse events. Once the plugin is loaded, if you click outside Moz and then back in, you usually get focus. This does not affect N4 on Unix. * Out-of-process only on Unix. The Moz guys dropped the X app context on unix (argh!), which means I have to meld the event loop with gtk. I got lazy and decided to go out-of-process for now since that works and is transparent to the user. May get back in-process later. * Arrows Keys in IE. It appears that on any page with a vertical scrollbar on IE, the arrow keys are used for that before the plugin ever gets them. You can get other keys fine, just not arrows. If you fit all on one page, you are OK. * Tcl 8.4.1+ required. Due to reload issues that had to be fixed in the core, you must have a very recent version of Tcl (the one in the Tcl Dev Kit 2.5b1 is good, ActiveTcl 8.4.1.1 is not). When you go out-of-proc this is irrelevant (ie for Unix), but assuming I fix the in-proc stuff, you need the latest version. * Policies. The current safety stuff is the same as before, but I do plan to alter that in the coming weeks. More power to both the user and the tclet developer is needed. * The end goal is to have a plugin with a one-click-from-browser install, but right now I am targetting functionality only. -- Jeff Hobbs The Tcl Guy Senior Developer http://www.ActiveState.com/ Tcl Support and Productivity Solutions |

I have updated the CVS with much better build and install instructions, as well as a fully working 'make install' (should you configure correctly). I have also commited a precompiled win/pluginhostctrl.dll for those that want to test against IE. They just have to regsrv32 this dll and then you will have NPAPI plugins in IE again. There is a known issue with focus in Mozilla on Linux (maybe *nix). Jeff Hobbs The Tcl Guy Senior Developer http://www.ActiveState.com/ Tcl Support and Productivity Solutions |

For those who have been wondering what to do with sources that don't install, I've fixed make install to be a little more helpful. The basics of making a built plugin operate for you is: All platforms: run make install This copies the contents of tclplugin/library to whatever install dir you have chosen. Whereever this goes, it must be on the auto_path of the wish dll (Windows) or wish binary that will be used. WINDOWS: Mozilla: Copy the build nptcl30.dll to Mozilla's PLUGINS dir. Probably C:/Progra~1/mozilla.org/Mozilla/Plugins IE 5.5sp1-: Copy the build nptcl30.dll to Mozilla's PLUGINS dir. Probably C:/Progra~1/Internet Explorer/PLUGINS IE 5.5sp2+: Copy dll as for 5.5sp1 above. You will also need the ActiveX NPAPI host control from: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html You have to compile this yourself for now, as it also needs to register itself as a control. Hopefully I can get a binary with install for this done soon. UNIX: All browsers: Copy libnptcl3.0.so to whereever plugins are expected, like: /opt/mozilla/plugins (Mozilla, site-wide) /usr/local/lib/netscape/plugins (Netscape4, site-wide) ~/.netscape/plugins (Netscape4, personal) ~/.mozilla/plugins (Netscape7 or Mozilla1+, personal) Edit installed /path/to/tcl/lib/nptcl3.0/installed.cfg set ::plugin(executable) to a valid, up-to-date 8.4 wish binary. Restart browser and go from there. A good starting page is: http://www.tcl.tk/software/plugin/ and the Plugin Demos link. At this time, any existing tclet should operate with the plugin, but I am not commited to keeping that compatability, depending on what we do to modify the security model. [[[ This message is a resend, as this list is now archived starting with this message at http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Browse/Threaded/tclplugin-core ]]] It's alive! After a one month revamp of the sources, I have just commited a major rewrite of the plugin to the tclplugin project at SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/tclplugin/ For those not already on the tclplugin-core mailing list, this is the only message you will get unless you subscribe to that list through the SF site. I have also clamped down to only allow registered users to post to the list, since it has had spam problems before. This represents a significant chunk of time that we (ActiveState) are putting back into the open so that we may all soon be enjoying tclets. In the future, it is likely to be distributed with ActiveTcl as well as independently in some form (for those who just need a working plugin). I had to wrangle with bugs in the plugin as well as in the Tcl core, so when working with it, assume you should have the latest core builds available. I have had to make a few changes to get things working satifactorily with the updated state of web browsers. The plugin sources represent an updated, functional NPAPI plugin (for Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, ...). There is an ActiveX control to host NPAPI plugins from Mozilla (see ChangeLog for URL) that I have used to successfully use the plugin with IE6. I have tested the plugin successfully with Win/IE5.5 and IE6, Win/Moz1.2, Lin/N4 and Lin/Moz1.2. I had to change the unix model to always be out-of-proc due to changes in the way Mozilla treats plugins. I don't see this as a real problem, except that it requires more configuration out of the box. The plugin build system is entirely TEA2 based. Don't try installing it, I'm assembling everything by hand at this point. This message is just to get people who are interested in as early influencers. I won't go into too much detail of what else is required as that can continue on the list. At this point though, I am relying on an existing dynamic Tcl installation (ActiveTcl of course in my case). I don't want to start off focusing on packaging though - the plugin has a ways to go in general functionality before we get to packaging. Pass this on to whomever you wish - just tell them to subscribe to tclplugin-core to get in on the action.
