If you are going that far, why not just distribute it as a starkit that
could be placed itself into the appropriate directory so nothing had to
be extracted at all? Doesn't the new Tcl Module support provide for such
a thing?

BWidget ought to not require a 'make install' step at all --
you should be able to just extract the tarfile in-place
(anywhere on $::auto_path) and it's ready to go.
