I've been madly working on the Swank Canvas lately. Some of it is described at http://wiki.tcl.tk/25389 and the pages that are linked from there. Some of the stuff described is not yet in a release (or even uploaded to the Kenai repository), but I'm aiming for one by the end of the month. Also working on making it easier for me to modify Tk documentation to something appropriate for Swank. I'd certainly welcome feedback on this work in progress. cheers, Bruce (aka swankguy) |

Hi everyone, I am trying to bind a tcl script to a java event but I always get the same exception. I do: set var [java::new test.Provider] java::bind $var myeventPerformed { puts "event received!!!" } and java::bind always throws "Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: test/event/MyeventListener" I follow the Java beans' model event. The class test.Provider contains the methods: public void addMyeventListener(MyeventListener e) public void removeMyeventListener(MyeventListener e) public MyeventListener[] getMyeventListeners() The interface MyeventListener extends EventListener and is placed in the test.event package. The only method defined in this interface is "public void myeventPerformed(MyeventEvent e)". The class MyeventEvent extends ObjectEvent and is into the test.event package too. If I execute "java::info events $var", I get "test.event.MyeventListener" If I execute "java::info methods test.event.MyeventListener", I get "{myeventPerformed test.event.MyeventEvent}" among other methods. I have no idea why it is failing and any suggestion would be very appreciated. I executed the example given for the bind command in the tcl/java manual (that about a button and a frame) and worked... I should be missing something but I do not know what! Thanks! Victoria |

Hi, I am sorry if my question was previously replied in the list but I didn't find anything... Does TclBlend work on Mac OS X? I tried to install it on a Mac OS X 10.6 following the instructions in the docs/Topics/BuildTclBlendUnix.html file of the tclBlend1.4.1 distribution but I didn't make it. I modified the configure file for looking for the libjava.jnilib (instead of the libjava.so) and it worked. But finally, the configure failed when tried to link a JNI application. I got this message: "configure: error: could not link file that includes jni.h, Either the configure script does not know how to deal with this JVM configuration or the JVM install is broken or corrupted." Looking at the config.log file, I saw that the problem is at the gcc call: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/include conftest.c -L/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/../Libraries -ljava -lverify -L/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/jre/lib/i386/client -ljvm -L/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/jre/lib/i386/native_threads -lhpi >&5 ld: library not found for -ljava The compilation fails because the jre folder does not exist in the system. Does anyone have idea about how to fix it? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! I am working with: tcl 8.5.7 source distribution tclBlend 1.4.1 Thread extension 2.6.5 java version "1.6.0_15" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-219) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-90, mixed mode) Thanks! I've been playing a bit lately with doing some numerical methods with Jacl and Apache Commons Math. With a few changes to the Jacl code and a few new classes I can now use vectors and matrices directly in "expr" commands, and call various linear algebra operations. That appears to have been added in the "Jacl Modernization" project ( http://wiki.tcl.tk/23812 ), but don't know when that will be available as a release. I am using ActiveTcl 8.4 on Windows (since I need their Expect package) with Tcl Blend. Right after the Java program ends, this error message pops up: Visual C++ Runtime Library Assertion failed! Program: C:\Windows\system32\java.exe File: C:\TclBlendSrc\tcljava\src\native\javaCmd.c Line: 331 Expression: tsdPtr->Initalized For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts (Press Retry to debug the <http://www.vistax64.com/> application - JIT must be enabled) There are button options of retry, abort, and ignore. Is there anything I could do to avoid this error ? Is there another option if I want to have Expect package on Windows (instead of using ActiveTcl) ? Thanks. I installed Tcl Blend and successfully run TCL scripts from my Java program. Now I need Expect package in my script; What is the recommended way to do it ? I downloaded ActiveState Tcl 8.5 which I could install Expect to it. It runs OK when I use their interpreter directly. Now I need a way to combine it with Tcl Blend in order to run from Java on Windows. Does anybody know how to do this ? Thanks. Regards, Jerry |

The problem you're running into is because "2>/dev/null" is not a valid argument for the "find" command. The answer is yes. Jacl is written in Java. TclBlend is written in C. A java runtime will not execute C dlls natively. The Java runtime needs to load a C runtime(TclBlend) which can then call a C dll. |

Hi, I have an application that uses TclJava that runs correctly as a script, however, I'm trying to wrap it as an application and I'm running into some problems. To wrap the application I'm using Tcl Dev Kit 5.0. However, if you have a solution using something else like starkits or starpacks, I'd like to hear from you. I've played around the pkgIndex.tcl files related to tcljava to see what's going on. Basically, when it gets to the point of loading tclblend.dll (through XpUtils::iload) I get a message saying that it can't load the library or some other required library. However, tclblend.dll is in the PATH environment variable. Also, if the PATH to the Java JRE is set correctly in pkgIndex.tcl, then iload crashes before getting the message above. So if setting the PATH to the Java JRE is skipped, then the I get the error described above. Finally, if tclblend.dll is in the same directory as the executable, then I get a nasty C++ error message. So, I hope someone as solved this problem and can send me the solution. I'm not a computer scientist or sys admin, but I've written several Tcl/Tk apps. I've wasted too much time trying to figure out a solution. Thanks in advance for your help, -- Robert Lipman http://cic.nist.gov/lipman/ |

The answer is yes. Jacl is written in Java. TclBlend is written in C. A java runtime will not execute C dlls natively. The Java runtime needs to load a C runtime(TclBlend) which can then call a C dll. |

I found this email thread, and wonder if this is still true with Jacl 1.4.1. I could run the tcl script from Jacl shell, however I can't do that from my Java program. It will cause exception when this command is encounter: load abc.dll struct Does this mean I have to switch to Tcl Blend ? Thanks. You can't load native Tcl libs into a Jacl application. If you want to do that, you will need to use Tcl Blend not Jacl. Tcl Blend 1.3 supports loading both Tcl and Tcl Blend into an existing JVM. Radek, Sorry, I had read somewhere that the socket feature had not been implemented in JACL but I believe it now is. Tcl Blend is more suited in my situation due to the number of external packages that I load in. E.g GPIB Thanks for your reply. This is a list of the pure Tcl packages in Tcllib that should in theory work with an Tcl 8.4 compatible Jacl implementation. http://docs.activestate.com/activetcl/8.4/tcllib/toc.html On the other hand the tclx extension won't work because it's written in C. http://docs.activestate.com/activetcl/8.4/tclx/TclX.n.html 2009/8/31 Radosław Szulgo <rs...@gm...> > Seamus: What exactly features are not implemented in JACL that you need > ?
