Bruce,

    True there has not been much activity but IMHO, jacl/swank is 
required to be in
a programmer's toolbox for one of those occassions where other solutions 
would
be less than optimal/desirable.  I am not actively using Jacl but am 
subscribed
to the mailing list to learn of new developments.  One thing I am 
definitely interested
in looking at in the near future is Jacl along with Ant for doing 
builds, testing etc.
