My current version of tcl is 8.2. My current version of tclhttpd is 2.1.6 I will try to update to the latestversion. Dr. Mireles Please use the *latest* version of TclHTTPd, grab it from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12884&release_id=14427 I have no idea what version you have, so it's very iffy to try and answer your question. In the future, you might help people trying to help you by including version information: * What version of Tcl are you using? Obtain it from tclsh by typing 'set tcl_version' and including the answer in your email. * Look at the default page of the web site served by TclHTTPd for the version of the web server, it should be there. Include that in your email also. --JYL "Dr. Hector C. Dear Community of TCLers Please help this novice, if you have experience with the server running on Windows 95. I've been using the distribution that comes with the Welch book, "Practical Programing in TCl and Tk" on Windows 95. It appears to run well enough to serve up the tutorial on the disk. But when I customize even simple templates Html+Tcl like the examples in the book, the server will not serve the pages because I've changed the .tml file in the local directory. THIS OCCURS ALSO IF I DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING IN THAT FILE, AND SIMPLY DO A NAME CHANGE, SUCH THAT THE MODIFIED DATE CHANGES IN THE FILE. This doesn't make sense to me. I mean. Nothing has changed in the .tml file, and it's serving the exact same index.tml file as in the documentation, which work before the name changing. What gives. Is this a Windows problem. Has anyone seen this? Thanks for the help Hector Mireles ===== Dr. Hector Cordova Mireles Visiting Assistant Professor Department of Physics Trinity University 715 Stadium Drive San Antonio, Texas 78212 Office: (210) 999-7499; FAX: (210) 999-7423 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I just remembered that tclhttpd requires the use of the TCL standard library (doh!) . So you should already have it installed (another assumption, but you _are_ posting to the tclhttpd list !). -- Peter Farmer | Custom XML software | Internet Engineering Zveno Pty Ltd | Website XML Solutions | Training & Seminars http://www.zveno.com/ | Open Source Tools | - XML XSL Tcl Pet...@zv... +------------------------+--------------------- Ph. +61 8 92036380 | Mobile +61 417 906 851 | Fax +61 8 92036380 |

That code is basically lifted straight from the base64 encoder/decoder written by Stephen Uhler & Brent Welch, and Chris Garrigues. It is now part of the excellent TCL library package that JYL mentioned. I highly recommend you adopt TCL lib as a standard part of your TCL toolkit 8-). -- Peter Farmer | Custom XML software | Internet Engineering Zveno Pty Ltd | Website XML Solutions | Training & Seminars http://www.zveno.com/ | Open Source Tools | - XML XSL Tcl Pet...@zv... +------------------------+--------------------- Ph. +61 8 92036380 | Mobile +61 417 906 851 | Fax +61 8 92036380 |

I believe the Tcl library contains a base64 encoder/decoder -- check out http://tcllib.sourceforge.net. --JYL Colin McCormack wrote: > > Hi, > > I need to convert gif files to base 64 so that I can attach them to my XML > > documents as multipart MIME. > > > > I find many programs which encode strings to base 64 but not many which will > > convert a binary file. > > > > I will appreciate if someone could point me to some source which take as an > > input a binary file and outputs file in base 64 format. > > This isn't a pure tcl implementation, but > http://www.oche.de/~akupries/soft/trf/trf_conv.html > has a base64 encoding, and will handle binary files (I think you would push > the conversion onto an open file channel, and read from it.) > > Colin. > > _______________________________________________ > TclHttpd-users mailing list > Tcl...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tclhttpd-users |

Thanks for the info. I just used the code from http://mini.net/tcl/588.html (I wonder who the author is). The way I used this is as follows. proc encodeBinaryFile { filename } { set file [open $filename] fconfigure $file -translation binary -encoding binary set bindata [encode64 [read $file]] close $file return $bindata } It works great!! This isn't a pure tcl implementation, but http://www.oche.de/~akupries/soft/trf/trf_conv.html has a base64 encoding, and will handle binary files (I think you would push the conversion onto an open file channel, and read from it.) Hi, I need to convert gif files to base 64 so that I can attach them to my XML documents as multipart MIME. I find many programs which encode strings to base 64 but not many which will convert a binary file. I will appreciate if someone could point me to some source which take as an input a binary file and outputs file in base 64 format. There's no proxy server running. I am sure that that the web server is handling the requests. I will try playing with the httpd.tcl file though and see if I can find anything. The logging is done at a very low level with no awareness of what type of URL is being fetched. Try accessing /status and see if that shows up in your log or not. Finally, jam some "puts" statements into the lib/httpd.tcl file to make sure it is really getting the requests you think it should (is there a proxy in your environment?) HttpdEvent is where it reads requests, and you can search for the "Log" call in Httpd_SockClose >>>"Michael C. Urban" said: > Log_FlushMinutes is set to 0 and /tmp/log80_error is not recording > anything. But still nothing is showing up in log80_01.07.11 for anything > other than CGI or tml. Log_FlushMinutes is set to 0 and /tmp/log80_error is not recording anything. But still nothing is showing up in log80_01.07.11 for anything other than CGI or tml. I even tried dumping the cache in my browser to make sure that it wasn't recording the hit cause it was cached already (but even then it whould have recorded 302 I think). Also, it is recording 404 errors. I checked that. Seems that static pages do not get recorded in the logs though. Neither .txt or .html files are getting recorded. The hits on these pages are showing up in the statistics report page though. But there is no record in the log. Make sure Log_FlushMinutes is set to 0 so that each log record is flushed to the log file as the log record is created. Then, it really should be logging every URL hit. You should also look at the error log in case something weird is happening. Errors are logged there instead of the normal log. >>>"Michael C. Urban" said: > Hi Brent, > > I copied the new file you sent over the existing one and restarted the > server, but I am still having the same proble. Hi Brent, I copied the new file you sent over the existing one and restarted the server, but I am still having the same proble. Basically, only CGI and .tml hits are logged. .html, .txt, etc. are still not showing up in the log. I've looked through the logstd.tcl files and such, but I am just starting to learn TCL and I didn't find any problems (BTW, your book is great. I just started reading it yesterday and it is really helping me learn). Anyway, here's what I am running: FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT TCL 8.3.2 TCL-Webserver/3.3 Both TCL 8.3.2 and TCL-Webserver/3.3 were installed from the FreeBSD ports collection. I may try doing a manual install, but I don't see why that would make a difference. Any other ideas? Thanks, Mike On Wed, 11 Jul 2001, Brent Welch wrote: > Hmm - looking at the log for dev.scriptics.com I see all files, but > I don't see two things that I expected to see - 200/404 error codes, > and byte counts: > > 199.172.149.141 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:25 PDT] "GET /doc/tclHistory.html > HTTP/1.0" - - "ArchitextSpider" - > 209.247.40.105 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:31 PDT] "GET /man/iwidgets3.0 HTTP/1.0" > - - "ia_archiver" - > 209.247.40.105 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:31 PDT] "GET /man/iwidgets3.0/ HTTP/1.0" > - - "ia_archiver" - > 209.202.148.42 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:40 PDT] "GET /lists/mactcl/2000 > HTTP/1.0" - - "FAST-WebCrawler/2.2.6 (cr...@fa...; > http://www.fast.no/faq/faqfastwebsearch/faqfastwebcrawler.html)" - > > Ahh - closer inspection reveals that LogStandardData is somewhat broken. > I'll attach a new version of lib/logstd.tcl that should restore the log > to the standard format. > > By the way, I've been meaning to do a 3.3.1 release for some time, > and now have a little time to devote to that. Hmm - looking at the log for dev.scriptics.com I see all files, but I don't see two things that I expected to see - 200/404 error codes, and byte counts: 199.172.149.141 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:25 PDT] "GET /doc/tclHistory.html HTTP/1.0" - - "ArchitextSpider" - 209.247.40.105 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:31 PDT] "GET /man/iwidgets3.0 HTTP/1.0" - - "ia_archiver" - 209.247.40.105 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:31 PDT] "GET /man/iwidgets3.0/ HTTP/1.0" - - "ia_archiver" - 209.202.148.42 - - [11/Jul/2001:00:17:40 PDT] "GET /lists/mactcl/2000 HTTP/1.0" - - "FAST-WebCrawler/2.2.6 (cr...@fa...; http://www.fast.no/faq/faqfastwebsearch/faqfastwebcrawler.html)" - Ahh - closer inspection reveals that LogStandardData is somewhat broken. I'll attach a new version of lib/logstd.tcl that should restore the log to the standard format. By the way, I've been meaning to do a 3.3.1 release for some time, and now have a little time to devote to that. Look for this release "soon". >>>"Michael C. Hi all, I just installed tclhttpd 3.3 and am evaluating for use in an application. I have a question about logging though. How come only hits on pages with a .tml extension show up in the log? Any hits on pages with a .html extension are not logged. Is there a way to change this? I couldn't find anything in the reference manual on controlling what gets logged and what doesn't. I also looked through the .rc file and didn't find any relevant options that control what gets logged. Also, is it possible to log the number of bytes of data transfered on each hit so that I can generate bandwidth usage reports? This information doesn't seem to be in the log file that tclhttpd produces. Thank you, Mike |

This is possible if you use two different Tcl interpreters, one in each thread, and invent your own means of controlling the other thread. You should never let two different threads execute inside the same Tcl interpreter. >>>"Nithya Srinivasan" said: > We would be thankful if you can please give us a few suggestions in = > solving the following problem.=20 > > As per our requirement,we have to run tcl scripts which can be = > interrupted, resumed and stopped. To do this, we are creating a loadable = > package in C++ and invoking it in the TCL interpreter.
