I have the same problem under Tiger 10.4.10 (Intel, embedded build
from HEAD) using the widget demo for "file selection dialogs". I
sometimes get a "Bus error" or "segmentation fault". Alas, I am
unable to make this reproducable, it just sometimes crashes and
sometimes not. Sometimes it crashed after a short delay, like the
original poster also mentioned. So this may not be a Leopard issue

I seriously doubt that your crash is due to the same problem, all the
Leopard crashes happen inside Cocoa, and in Tiger, the file dialogs
are not implemented using Cocoa...
If you can get a backtrace/crash log from a file dialog crash on
Tiger, please attach it to a bug on the Tk sourceforge tracker.
