I cannot speak to MacOS X in specific, but I can tell you what we do on
other platforms - perhaps that translates to similar functions for you.
To test Tcl on Unix, I do the following:
1. download the source
2. untar the source
3. configure the source
4. type "make all" to build the source
5. type "make test" to build a special tclsh called tcltest, which then is
invoked to test out this version of tcl.
6. type "make install" to build the tcl if it worked in the previous step.
At that point in time, I find I can just invoke tcltest from the command line
and I have what appears to be a regular tclsh prompt. At that point,
I can do a source of the appropriate test or the all.tcl file.
