Hi all, As promised, here are the new message catalogs that need translating. The only catalogs which have the complete set are fr and en so you can take a look at those to see what's missing in you catalog. Yesterday I told you to use MSGEdit to modify the catalog entries. I have to step back from that statement a bit. The patch I'm giving you provides a new escape sequence to do underlining: \_. This sequence isn't recognised by MSGEdit so reading and writing the files doesn't quite give the right results. But, MSGEdit is really nice for determining which strings haven't been translated yet. When you bring up the MSGEdit window, anything in yellow means that the string is the same as the English one. That can help you see what you may have failed to translate. I am sending a copy of this message to the author of MSGEdit to see if he will patch it to support the \_ construct. I think that even if it's not a patch that is currently not part of the core, it shouldn't hurt anything since \_ isn't a supported escape sequence. In this message, you have a patch to apply to tcl and one to apply to tk. I supposes that you are using the latest cvs sources (well, this morning's sources at any rate). I'm also sending the catalog files as a zipped file so you can do the transalations without patch the Tcl sources. The patches contain new tests for regexp and button. The regexp test will fail because I haven't figured out where to patch the core to get the behaviour I want. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have fixed this. If you want to contribute more tests and if you want to add documentation for this, I definitely will not hate you for it. :-) If you have problems with the patch or the translation, don't hesitate to contact me. Hello Laurent, The first attached file, ja.msg.gz is the Japanese translation for message catalogs. In some short test pieces, some of troubles are found. Main trouble is related to text width of the widgets. In tk_chooseColor, it does not work well. test05a.gif is the error message and test05b.gif is the widget after skipping error. test05c.gif is the normal widget of tk_chooseColor with Tcl/Tk8.3.2. Testing environment is: RedHat Linux 6.2 Japanese Edition I think it necessary to test on MS Windows 98 and 2000. I will check on them later. Thanks. To calculate the width of a widget, I use the ::msgcat::mcmax function. The problem is that for a string like OK, I user "OK" to calculate the width. My assumption was that the length of "OK" and "O\_K" should be the same, since the \_ is pretty much like a diacritic (I hope it's the right term). Evidently, that's not the case for languages such as Japanese. ... Ok, I just patched the msgcat.tcl file and these are the results I get: # ja ::msgcat::mcmax OK ::msgcat::mcmax O\_K % 2 % 5 % # en ::msgcat::mcmax OK ::msgcat::mcmax O\_K % 2 % 2 The patch is attached and it should fix your problems. Keep those problem reports coming! Hi Laurent, Thank you for your quick response! Immediately, I patched the file you sent, but the result seems the same as before as shown in test1b.gif. I tested this underline escape on simple button widget with msgcat and ja.msg. The sample script is 'button_ok.tcl' and the result is shown in test6a.gif. On purpose to compare with normal widget which has the same Japanese string without underline, 'button_ok_jp.tcl' is also implemented. (Sorry this includes Japanese characters....) The result is shown in test6b.gif. They show that calculation of string width for multi-byte character looks correct on normal widget such as button. But, on built-in widget, such as tk_messageBox and tk_getSaveFile and so on, the calculation may be incorrect for some reason, though I do not know why. I am very sorry that I have not enough time to look into sources of Tk in detail, but just let you know the result for your patch. Thanks. I just have to change all instances of things like ::msgcat::msgmax OK to ::msgcat::msgmax O\_K It's not hard to do but I haven't had time and I forgot to mention it this morning. If someone else has the time to do it and provid the patches today, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll do it on the train tonight and you'll get it tomorrow morning. I've also tested it with the Japanese locale. It doesn't look quite right on my machine. The yesnocancel dialog buttons seem too small for the Japanese text. I haven't checked with other languages. There is some more tweaking to do, I guess. Hello Laurent, In this morning, I've checked the files you sent. Almost improved! But 'Cancel' button has still shorter width for Japanese string, and 'Files of type' in file selection box. In attached pictures, you can find them. Thank you. Keiichi -- Keiichi Takahashi, bitWalk Co.,Ltd. mailto:bi...@ny... mailto:tc...@em... http://members.nbci.com/tcltk/index.html |
