My "can we be done now" comment was premature and not appropriate.
I think we are all novices in the way TCT operates, or should operate.

I would like to bring this issue to closure, if possible.  So, let me
start by stating two different proposals, one for realloc, which I
hope is easy to resolve, and the other is for the large string append
problem where there are two different camps.
I'll start new threads for it.
