[MACTCL] Tk 8.6.2 blocking failure on Mac OSX

The following simple script segfaults in Tk 8.6.2 on Mac OSX:

button .b
pack .b
update
destroy .b
button .c
update

It appears that the cause of this critical regression is the
recent checkin

I do not believe Tk 8.6.2 can be released in this condition.

What are the prospects for correcting this failure in a short period
of time?

If we do not have hope for that, what are the consequences of backing
out that checkin?
