Thanks for the vote of confidence. It means a lot.

FWIW, I've done a bit more fine-tuning of the code, removing the private 
calls altogether rather than just ifdefing them out. I also found and 
removed a bottleneck that was displaying atrociously slow redraw of 
complex interfaces when scrolling (i.e. the text widget with embedded 
windows from the demo); now I think the performance is almost 
indistinguishable from the previous implementation that used the private 
interfaces.
