Well, such a wrapper won't add IPv6 support to those platforms, it 
would just retain IPv4 networking for them.

Fine with me if that's the consensus.

I only want to avoid that the rest of my work gets rejected just 
because I dropped support for gethostbyname(), so I'd rather provide a 
compat layer, if so desired.
