Not sure how much further just the two of us can get on this. (But then again, neither of us is the bug assignee. ;-) ) I was sort-of hoping to invoke some interest from one of the big guys. Particularly, since there would be a script-level-visible change of behaviour, it would be preferable to have "incompatibilities" (if that is how they would be viewed) happen at a minor version increment...
