Category: 36. File System Group: obsolete: 8.4.9 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Don Porter (dgp) >Assigned to: Pat Thoyts (patthoyts) Summary: per-volume working directory Initial Comment: A Tcl user on Win 2K reports to me: With 8.3.5, I see this: % pwd C:/Documents and Settings/donahue/My Documents/oommf % cd m: % pwd M:/vmshare % cd temp % pwd M:/vmshare/temp % cd c: % pwd C:/Documents and Settings/donahue/My Documents/oommf % cd m: % pwd M:/vmshare When I cd between drives, the cwd is the same as when the Tcl shell started. If I do a cd while on a drive, leave, and come back, the change is lost. On 8.4.9 I get: % pwd C:/Documents and Settings/donahue/My Documents/oommf % cd m: % pwd M:/ % cd vmshare/temp % pwd M:/vmshare/temp % cd c: % pwd C:/ % cd m: % pwd M:/ Here anytime I change drives I start at root. This is different behavior than in 8.3.5. It looks to me that volume relative paths are broken in both 8.3 and 8.4, but in different ways. One annoyance with the 8.4 behavior is that the meaning of "c:foo" will vary depending on whether or not a cd off-drive has occurred. I assume that volume relative paths were put in to mimic the Windows "look and feel." In that case, it would seem that having an implementation that doesn't follow the Windows behavior adds negative value, and should be either fixed or dropped. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Don Porter (dgp) Date: 2008-04-15 12:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=80530 Originator: YES any chance you can check the status of this one in 8.4 and 8.5? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-11-23 08:20 Message: Logged In: NO I haven't had time for the last 6 months, and won't do for several months to come. I do think that at some point this stuff worked in 8.4.x, but am not too sure.
