There is a substantial diff file for Tk, although I don't know if these are Apple specific mods or just ones that have been subsequently used in the main tree. Also, although I have not managed to get Tcl-20 to build completely, it obviously includes stuff like the Private Headers and tclsh which missing from the Tiger distribution. The Tiger distribuion seems to split over 2 packages Essentials.pkg in the main install and BSDSDK.pkg which is part of Xcode and includes the headers. Perhaps Dan can cast some light on the intention here. > > But the BI installer will almost certainly install a newer Tcl/Tk and > newer versions of the packages. I don't subscribe to the Linux 'shovel it all in tested-or-not' philosophy. I guess that is why I use a Mac, and wherever I can, I prefer to use tested system software rather than something I knocked up myself. > > One could imagine a special BI Tiger installer that only installs the > "missing" packages for Tiger using Tiger's Tcl/Tk. But the usual Aqua > Tcl/Tk BI installer probably has no reason to be clever. It would be good to have two Tiger installs. One with the missing packages and the other with a Tk-X11 framework for things like BLT or R which don't play well with the Aqua one. Bill Northcott |
