The internal window created by the Windows socket channel driver interferes with the desktop because synchronous messages sent by the system are not serviced in a timely fashion.

03/23/1999 20:31 - stanton - The driver needs to be rewritten using blocking APIs and threads in the same manner as the console and pipe drivers. Vignette will need this bug to be fixed soon.
The Windows socket drivers have been overhauled. Get 8.2.0 for
the best of the bunch.
